My father who now lives in Australia has had an account with PNC from its beginning. It bought Riggs Bank years ago. My father has sent large checks to us over the past couple of years. Now a small check is not being honored because Mr. Kim and Mr Yeo, managers at PNC have said my father needs to have an updated signature card on file. My dad is 85, lives in Australia, doesn't drive or get out much. They want to send him a signature card, have him to drive from Melbourne to Sydney to go to the US Embassy (long trip) have the card notarized and mail back the signature card. Ridiculous!!!!!!! Needless to say- this account that makes no-interest- will be closed shortly. No more using his money for free PNC. Stay away from PNC!!!! Not elderly friendly!

If you look at it from a different perspective they are actually being very account holder friendly. The REAL issue is that he is on the other side of the world and has nothing to do with his age. Apparently his signature has changed enough over time(not uncommon for any age) that they want a new signature card. Not that you will ever believe this but it is for HIS protection.
Unfortunately the only time you probably will ever believe this is when a fraudulent check comes through his account with his older signature on it. That because it is what was on the card..they paid it. Of course if that does happen the first thing you will be screaming is that they should have gotten an updated card.
Now, before you go off saying "Well you are an employee"..sorry I am not an employee of this or any other bank. You could put the name of any bank in your report and I would have said the exact same thing. So, if you want to change banks...go right ahead
But how are you going to do that without him doing the exact same thing that PNC wants you to do to get a new signature card on file? If you find a bank that is more lenient on something like this...perhaps you should take a step back and think about just how safe that actually is. After all without some sort of verification that he was actually the one who signed the card what would keep someone you knew that had enough information from changing the signature card and emptying his account?
