*Consumer Comment: Divorce Decree
I divorced my ex-wife 15 years ago. She owed many debts. The "family" vehicle was in my name but she was awarded it along with the payments in court. Portfolio has been harassing my family for a very long time usually three times a day, as late as about 9:00 p.m. and sometimes awakening us in the morning. They even call on Sundays. We finally located court documents proving this is not my responsibility. They told us it would end this but they continue. I am so sick of it! It is not our debt! I want them to stop harassing my wife and kids!

This is about the worst possible collection agency you can be dealing with.
Send/fax them a letter via Certified Mail + Return Receipt (do NOT use regular mail) stating:
Per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, cease all communications with me. Receipt of this letter is officially being time stamped via Certified Mail.

Divorce Decree
AUTHOR: Dave - (USA)

When you got your divorce what your attorney should have told you (and your ex) is that a divorce decree does not excuse either of you from the debts you incurred during the marriage. Both of you are still responsible for the debt. If neither of you pay it will harm both of your credit. What you would need to do is pay the debt then take her to court and try to get your money back.
