My family and I were moving from Atlanta, GA to Jacksonville, FL area. After speaking with a couple of companies, we spoke with Priceling Moving and Storage in Atlanta, GA. The salesperson whose name is James spent an hour on the phone with my wife. He had my wife walk through the house and describe what was in every room. This seemed like a detailed process. He gave us a quote which was roughly equal to renting a U-Haul and some cheap help. James told my wife "they wouldn't stick us with a higher bill like the other guys". They would do a full service with wrapping and some assembly. All seemed fine.

The contract they provided had a pickup date scheduled on a Friday, with Saturday as a fallback. It stated that they would pack and drive to Florida the same day. The quote was $1700.

This included

  • wrapping and protecting items
  • disassembling some of our belongings, such as beds and desks
  • moving our belongings from a 1700 sq ft house into a truck
  • driving the truck 375 miles
  • moving and re-assembling

This seemed like a good deal. We paid the $525 deposit.

During the week before the move, we didn't get any phone calls to confirm the day or time. We tried calling and emailing James, and didn't get any replies. This was infuriating. We finally got James on the phone on Thursday, and he said the driver would call us asap. Friday arrived and nobody called us. I emailed James and didn't get a reply.

Saturday morning we got a call from the foreman whose name is "Junior". He stated that they would need to hold on to our stuff for a week !! I told him this wouldn't work, and to stand by for a couple of hours, because we were going to try and find someone else. I immediately called James. He didn't answer. I left 2 messages in the course of 45 minutes. I also texted that we are ready to cancel. He texted me back that they will pickup today, and drive tomorrow. So now, our deal is a Saturday pickup and a Sunday delivery. I told him this sounds good, as it would be very difficult to schedule another move with less than 24 hour notice.

Saturday afternoon, the movers showed up at 4pm, which is pretty late. The movers did the job which was agreed. After the truck was full, "Junior" pulled me towards the truck and walked along the outside of the truck with the door already closed and counted 1,2,3.. 14, 15. I wasn't sure what this meant. The tone of his voice became aggressive. He said "follow me, we have to talk" . He laid out some papers and described how we had "much more stuff" than was estimated. I understand these things happen, so I didn't argue. He went on to tell me that the $1700 bill was now $5200 !! He was very agressive about getting money orders and cash right away. He made it seem like they wouldn't drive the next day unless I agreed. Not everyone can pull that kind of money together on a minute notice.

Luckily, I have the money in savings, and I didn't want to risk having my baby without a crib, so I agreed, and signed the papers. After they left, I felt terrible. I've never been pushed around like this before. The movers showed up at the agreed time in Florida. One of the guys was agressive about getting money orders for payment. I thought about paying them less than the $5200 and disputing the rest, but, I decided to pay it in full, and forget about this terrible experience.I've never felt so harrassed and bullied in my life. I can't believe they would threaten to hold someone's belongings for a week, and demand thousands of dollars more than expected, especially from a family with a 9 month old baby. They sure made it seem like they would play dirty until they got my money too.Stay away from Priceline Moving ! They had to change their name from Prestige Moving because their online repuatation became filled with bad reviews. Priceline Moving and Storage is a Scam !
