When I filled out a form online to ship some furniture, I got a lot of calls from shipping brokers. The first call was from James at Priceline Moving and Storage. He was quite friendly, the price was reasonable - not too high or too low - and he talked me out of taking other quotes.
The $375 deposit had to be paid with a bank draft. Credit card was not a option. I provided the information for the bank draft. A week went by before I heard back from him that there was a problem with the bank draft. I was 800 miles from home at the place where the furniture was to be picked up when James called, the day before the scheduled pickup. I was not able to deal from there with whatever problem there was with the bank draft.
Then, suddenly, James was willing to charge the deposit on a credit card, so I did. The company it went to was called MSS Marketing, 1860 NE 158th St, North Miami Beach, FL, 33162. He insisted on DocuSign. Reading off the account number to him on the phone wouldn't work for Priceline. although plenty of credit card transactions are done that way.
The movers picked up the load. Then I didn't hear from them for 2 weeks.
Eventually the load arrived in good condition, no damage.
A month later, when looking at my bank statement, I found that the bank draft had gone through, so I was charged the $375 twice. If I hadn't seen that before the credit card bill was due, I would have paid it and had no recourse. I contacted James and he said he would take care of it and send a check. A couple of weeks went by. No check was received. Then James said the comptroller had dropped the check off at the post office. 15 days later, the check still didn't arrive.
James got nasty in the next email saying that he could keep the extra $375 if he wanted to because I "signed off" on it. The BBB wouldn't believe my story. He got very huffy about my accusation that he lied to me about the bank draft. All he had to do was cancel the credit card transaction but he refused. I contested the charge -it took over an hour on the phone and preparing the documentation - and the credit card company put a hold on the charge.
James has not responded to any communication from me since then.
The credit card charges were disputed twice and appear to have been dropped.
