Nearly one year ago and very pregnant, I visited a Verizon Certified Dealer to replace a damaged phone. Apparently, the salesperson signed me up for ProtectCell Insurance without my knowledge/consent.

After contacting Verizon about my damaged phone today they informed me that my insurance was in fact through this other company- Protectcell. After more investigation, I found that this company was charging an account for $10.99 per month since my phone purchase date.

I called Protectcell, because I had the intention of using this service after I learned I had been paying for it for nearly a year. After calling/registering for their website for the first time, I submitted my claim. Shortly, thereafter I received a call that there would be a $150 "Administration Fee" on top of the $10.99 I had been paying monthly. I then immediately said that I felt swindled and I wanted a refund and to cancel the account. At this time I was transferred to a Supervisor (Nikki). After a brief conversation my phone disconnected and immediately called back (within literally 1 minute of the disconnect) Nikki had "gone to lunch" and the new Representative informed me that they would not refund me any fees or transfer me to a Supervisor.

According to Nikki, the original Dealer at the Verizon Certified Retailer took a training course on how to sell their product for them. If this is so, I was not only lead to believe that I was getting a "no questions asked insurance plan" by Verizon but also thatI would receive a replacement for FREE. If you do any bit of research on this company as I now have, you will see that there are literally hundreds of complaints about their "trained" sales tactics. You are unable to see any "terms" when you purchase this plan because (according to Nikki again) you don't receive the terms until AFTER you are signed up for the service. The notices went to an unused gmail account that was set up for me by the ProtectCell Retailer! No paperwork signed. I left exhausted, with a pile of paperwork and ABSOLUTELY nothing about ProtectCell. Way to take advantage.

I called again hours after speaking with Nikki (assuming she would have returned from "lunch" and was told I would be transferred to directly to her or someone in her office. I then spoke with Tony who said there was no one in the corporate office by that name. Tony backtracked when I mentioned I was transferred by someone who knew who Nikki was. After explaining the situation once again, he called me irresponsible for not realizing I was being charged for months (something you should never, ever even consider saying to a brand new, first time mother even if he is right).

If there is ever a second child I will be sure to invite Tony to spend the first 6 months with us.

Very clandestine, no class, fraudulent practices.

Submitted False Dates and I have proof

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, March 31, 2015

I have an ongoing case against ProtectCell through the BBB. In ProtectCell's rebuttal to the Bureau, they made up several erroneous dates to claim I had contacted them about their services and were caught in a direct lie.

The ProtectCell Reprepresentative writing the rebuttal claimed that I contacted the company a specific date last May and inquired about their Services.

How do I know so clearly that this date is false? I was in the hospital under heavy anesthesia giving birth to my son. My phone wasn't even on. It was packed away in my overnight bag for less distractions. I had better things to do this day than call ProtectCell to inquire about their Buyback Program.

I provided the BBB with the Birth Certificate to prove they are involved in lies and fraudulent practices.
