I purchased a home with an existing Protection One alarm system that was out of contract. I used the alarm for several months (without monitoring) and everything worked fine.

Like an idiot I thought I would get the monitoring going (so my home insurance goes down) and they came and upgraded my control panel (which I paid for) to the latest and greatest. They also convinced me to purchase the extended service plan since my system was old and I was told it would cover everything (motions, window sensors, etc).

They day after they installed the new system I have had nothing but problems. Firstly the control panels throws an error every week and the alarm system is inoperable but I still have to pay (they collected 3 months up front on a 3 year contract). Every week a tech comes out and fixes the problem and by my great luck the problem comes back a week later. They keep on giving me this crap on a software upgrade.

Then my window sensors stopped working, so i called them to have to fixed. Guess what, the service plan wont cover it. They said it only covers the new panel and not the existing hardware (which the sales lady clearly told me it did). WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP. So 6 weeks later I have had techs come out at least 5 times and the same problem keeps on happening. The mysterious dispatch lady forgets to call and in general they are incompetent. I plan on filing a compaint with the BBB and I also purchase http://www.ihateprotectionone.com.

Prior to this I had vector security for 5 years and they are a great company. I wish I went with them again.
