I was transferred from Washington State June 2007, account address for this; Olympia, WA 98513. I am Military active duty. I have had the account with protection one from about May of 2002 and had past my contract period with them. The Army moved me and I called and mailed notification to Protection One about 25 June 2007.

Aug 2007 I noticed my AMX card was still being billed. I called them again, they said they were not notified and I needed to send a letter again. The first letter was sent to: Protection One P.O Box 49292, Wichita, KS 67201.

I had made 5 calls and faxed a letter to them; they finally stopped the monthly charges.
However, now they want to charge me a cancellation fee of over 100.00. As a military Soldier moved not by choice, this can not be done. Additionally, as a customer for 5 years with a perfect payment history till June of 2007, this is completely unacceptable.
All charges should be refunded/ reversed back to July 4th and no cancellation fees can legally apply.
The person on the phone would say this evening is that not paying the cancellation fee is my choice, but it will still be billed and that I should have started new service at my new location to avoid it. And yes, I did lose my emotion with this knuckle head, after 5 months of this.

When I setup the account they had the bill messed up for 4 months, after countless phone calls and four faxes, one letter they finally got it straight.

Value of Security Monitoring Service

AUTHOR: Dan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 16, 2007

First and foremost, I want to thank you for your service to me and our country. I'm a 21 yr AF Vet myself.

I've been approached by several security companies trying to sell me their services. But, I have to ask them several questions and present a few scenarios. I've lived here 20+ years. The crime rate in my neighborhood is extremely low. If the crime rate goes up, I'll move. If I purchased a system, I would have paid over $6500 for the monitoring services over the 20+ years. They are taking my money before the thieves get it.

Their services as they claim, is not an insurance plan. Any losses would have to be covered by homeowners or renters insurance. One offers to pay the deductible under certain conditions. One is they must have received an alarm. How could I prove that they did receive an alarm? I may be paranoid, but all they would have to say is "We didn't receive an alarm." I would be better off taking that $6500 and buying additional replacement value insurance.

The time it takes for the monitoring company to call me first (after a 30+ seconds wait) to determine if there is a problem, and assuming there was, they they would have to turn around to call emergency services. I could dial 911 sooner. The advantage of me calling 911 is I can leave my phone off the hook and all activity would be recorded by 911.

I have installed a siren for less than $70 that responds to a loud noise and turns itself off after a predetermined length of time.

If I am not at home, the company would call and the phone will ring until they determine that no one is going to answer. Then they'll call emergency services. That, in my opinion, is a long time. My daughter and her husband have an alarm system. The alarm company does not call for at least 30-60 secs. That gives them time to turn off the alarm when they get home.

These are just two of a few scenarios that concern me should I purchase a monitoring service. It is really worth it? None of the company reps I talked to would answer these scenarios to my satisfaction. Is there something I'm missing or don't understand?
