Toyota Puente Hills Bait and Switch
Do not believe what this dealer when you get a quote. Couple of days ago (Wednesday, 10/18/2006), my fiance and I went to a website and requested a quote for a Rav4 V6 Limited 4x2 with leather seat package, sunroof/moonroof and JBL speakers. We got several replies, one of them from Puente Hill's VIP Sales Manager - Eric Miller.

The price he quoted us was better than the price given by other dealers so we sent him an email to make sure the price is for the same specs we were looking. Eric replied back saying that the price he gave us is the one we requested and asked us when are we going to buy.

Friday afternoon (10/20/2006), we set an appointment by email for next day (Saturday morning, 10/21/2006) thinking we could buy the car at the price we agreed. We went to the Puente Hills Toyota and asked for Eric. He came and said he is currently working with some other customers so he handed us to another person (a very nice lady) so that we can test drive the car that matches our criteria. She said that there were only 1 car that matches our criteria in the dealership. We test drived the car and we were ready to purchase the car. We gave the lady a copy of the email conversation we had with Eric.

Eric came to us with the copy of the email and said that the one we tested had everything we requested (Rav4 V6 Limited, leather seat, sun/moon roof) but it was a 4x4 instead of the 4x2 and it was about $2000 more. He said that the lady that was helping us was new, so he went to see if there were other cars available with the specs we wanted. He later came back and said that he found some with the specs we wanted but the price is no longer the price we agreed.

We were surprised to know that he was asking for a total different price ($1,392 over what he gave us on the email) for the same car specs we agreed over our email conversation. Before making an appointment with him, we even emailed him back to make sure the price was correct (we listed all the specs again to make sure) and he said that the price was the one he quoted. His excuse was that the price he gave us was without leather seat.

First of all, before he went to see if there was any 4x2 model available, we told him again to make sure it's a leather/moonroof/jbl speakers and he said that they all come like that for limited V6 and he had a copy of our email conversation we printed. He later said that he had tried to call us to let us know the price was different but, the only call I got from Puente Hills Toyota was for our appointment reminder.

I find hard to believe that he called to let us know that the price was wrong. If he tried to let us know that the quote was wrong, why not tell us upfront when we arrived. We wasted over 2 hours in Puente Hills Toyota testing/waiting/talking to later find out the price is wrong. The new price they quote us was even higher than the one given by another dealer over the email. I feel very disappointed and cheated, the promise of a price for a car that was later changed on us after 2hrs of staying there. I will not recommend this Toyota Puente Hills to anyone because based on my experience.

That's a good story, I'd stick with it. If Eric is the newbie as you suggest, he's not gonna' sneeze without checking with whoever is above him.

Nicole's purchase experience

AUTHOR: Tseshani - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 15, 2006

My name is Tseshani. I am the Director of VIP Sales for Puente Hills Toyota. I tried to work with Nicole on her Rav4 purchase. Eric was her sales person and admitted to making a HUGE quoting error to her. She came in to look for a price that was not possible.

Eric was in his first 30 days as an Internet Sales Person. This does not make her experience any more pleasant, but we all make mistakes. I tried to overcome the price that we were dealing with and offered her several hundred dollars below invoice on any vehicle in stock. We had just lost all credibility with her and were not able to come to terms.

Nicole was polite and cooperative with me and allowed me the opportunity to try to help her out. We were just too far away. Eric was reprimanded and has since engaged in several training sessions on customer service and pricing via email.

The situation with Nicole was not pleasant for her, but it was definitely not intentional. We have a very solid department here with outstanding customer service. Eric's mistake should not brand us as a store or he as an individual. He did follow up with her to try to apologize and earn her business.

Thank you for your time,
Tseshani
