I am having trouble getting a loan modification from my lender.  A chain of internet site inquires resulted in contact from Rick Jimenez who is a Senior Intake Analyst at Real Estate Law Center in Los Angeles, California.  According to Mr. Jimenez, who makes it clear that he is not a lawyer, my lender could be made to grant the loan modification I want if I hire the Real Estate Law Center PC to represent me.  In a way his claim seems to make sense, if a lawyer contacts the legal department of my lender the lender might be more willing to work with me than if I talk to the mediation department.

Next step is to have someone get details of my situation.  I had a phone call from a young lady who was to take details of my case.  She asked a lot of questions about income and very few, or maybe none, about other details.

A short while later I got email notification that Real Estate Law Center PC would take my case.  After reviewing it apparently I was one of the possibly lucky few who this firm would represent.

Next step was more communicaiotn from Mr. Jimenez who told me that negative reports I read in ripoff.com were false as no one in his firm is in jail or has been prosecuted or anything like that.  He informed me that the head of ripoff.com was in some kind of trouble himself!  The obvious intent was to make me disbelieve ripoff.com.

Mr. Jimenez did send me a couple of interesting documents, one is a copy of a settlement between my lender and the government and the other is a copy of the California Homeowner Bill of Rights.  OK fine.  I looked through both of those but found no obvious example which would help my case.

I discussed the cost of hiring Real Estate Law Center PC.  I was told that the cost is usually $5,995 but I would get a discount to $4995.  Boy what luck!   Then I asked Mr. Jimenez how he expected me to come up with $5,000 if I am having trouble making $850 mortgage payments.  Mr. Jimenez then said he could take payments, up to 5 installments.  That, in my mind, translates into $1,000 a month.  If I can't pay my mortgage how can I handle an extra $1,000 I asked.  Well the suggestion somehow appeared, whether it was actually made or not I am not certain but it certainly was in the air:  pay the lawyers instead of the bank.  I do understand that while loans are being reviewed the foreclosure process stops temporarily; and maybe the same thing happens if a lender is being sued.  However the question must come up; can you guarantee results?  Of course not, is the answer.  Well then what happens to me with all these missed payments to the bank if you do lose?  No answer to that one.  Next logical question, can you provide me with names and contact information of people you have helped?  No, their privacy is very important and we won't do that.

Then I also got, in my emailbox, a retainer for my esignature.  I could esign a retainer and I would receive a completed copy either via email or in the regular mail, I forget which.

As you can imagine I was very careful to delete that email without accidentally signing it!  Kind of frightening when you get something like that as it could be quite easy to esign it by mistake and then what?

I emailed Mr. Jimenez back and told him that he was really jumping the gun with that retainer email.  He replied that he had told me he would send it.

I figured that was the end of it and was not going to bother reporting Real Estate Law Center to ripoff.com until this morning when I got ANOTHER retainer email for me to esign with a note that I would get one EVERY DAY until I signed!  There is a small box in the daily reminder email that you can check if you don't want daily almost threatening emails, but many people may not see it; it's pretty small, and could possibly esign by mistake.

What a company!!!
