I am currently attending Regency Beauty Institute and I want others to know how this school really operates before you waste your money.

What the campus manager and the other managers tell you during your tour is completely different than what is really expected. I was so excited to go back to school since I have been out for so long. I now regret ever going back. From the first night during our orientation we were treated like elementary students. We were told that we would only be going 4 days a week but the day we started they told us it would be changed to 5 days a week. For those of us that have full time jobs and children this makes it hard.

If you have a cell phone they will take it away (yes, seriously) and not return it until the end of the day. You are only allowed to be absent about once a month before it affects your attendance..this is college that us students are paying for. You have a dress code which is black pants, white, gray or black shirt and black shoes. That is EXACTLY what you must wear or you WILL be sent home, that happens quite often. They monitor how much you are in the bathroom and if you are a smoker, outside taking smoke breaks.

The managers/educators are very very young and have absolutely no idea how to handle situations with the students. None of them have ever managed a salon, let alone a school and it is very apparent. If you have a problem or issues with something don't go to the campus manager, or assistant manager. As soon as they help you or you leave their office they sit with other employees or students and say things like "she'll end up at Great Clips", or "she's an idiot she'll never make it." These are things that have actually been overheard by several other students as well as employees.

Since I started there have been a handful of educators leave, if the employees aren't even happy, how do they expect the students to be happy? I was shocked to learn how many other students were so unhappy. Unfortuntely if we were to drop out we would still have to pay. For those of us that are stuck, we would like others to really look in to Regency before you're stuck too. This is a $16,000 school and it is unfortunate that we are there to learn and they don't care enough about their students to address our concerns.

63% of the students that attend Regency graduate, that means 37% do not. What does that say about the school? This school is more about following their rules than really helping students learn.

I hope I have been of some help to those of you that are looking into attending a cosmetology program. I would just seriously recommend some where else other than Regency.

Regency is a SCAM, if you don't go here you don't know!

AUTHOR: Jane Angry Student - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, July 01, 2010

I can honestly say that if you don't go to Regency you shouldn't feel like you can give an educated response. I on the other hand DO go to Regency, I have excellent attendance,  I am achieving 96% academically and 100% on all Practical exams.  I have a college degree and am switching gears and getting into the cosmetology field.  I have never been fired or written up at any job I have ever had.  I have never had any problems at school or career as far as my attendance or work performance.  That all being said I HATE THIS SCHOOL!
The educators at my campus are not women who have worked in salons outside of their own home.  They have never had to work with a boss or with other stylists.  One frequently refers to herself as a "kitchen magician"!  Most are very unprofessional and are extremely rude.  I have lost two clients because of how rude educators have been to them or to me in front of them.  I have two educators who are really great and they truly care about the students but they seem to be shunned by the campus manager, performance floor manager, and the two other educators who all socialize outside of work and bring that party time mentality to their work.  The educators find it to be more important to hang out and be friends than it is to do their jobs.  I completely agree that they treat students like children and the phone confiscation is out of control at my school.  If you are walking into the building before the school day begins and you are on the phone they will take it away! Many times not all the educators are even at work yet and the students are already being harassed.  If you dare complain about any of this to the campus staff or to the corporate office where our academic advisers are,the backlash is horrible! I have had my stamp sheet (my monthly log of procedures completed) lost, I however am smart enough to make copies before I turn them in!
Another big problem at Regency is that things change day to day, no policy means anything because they change it to suit their needs.  Also financial aid and advisers ignore voicemails and emails, you have to call constantly just to get basic questions answered.  Even on the corporate level Regency is very unprofessional.  I would not want anyone I know to waste their time or money on this school.  I will be successful simply because its who I am. I can read the textbook and pass my written exams, I practice on my mannequins and family all the time.  I will make it through but at my campus right now our graduation rate is 47% and our attendance last month was 57%.  If you aren't self motivated you will fail and they are more than happy to let you because they have you on the hook for your full $17,000 tuition as soon as you clock your first hour!

New to Regency

AUTHOR: Another New Student - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, November 08, 2009

I am a new student at Regency Beauty Institute.  I haven't started yet, I start January 4, 2010.  So far I have not had any problems with anyone at either the campus that I am going to be attending or with the corporate people that have been calling me. I really hope that I don't experience any of the negative things a lot of you have, because I really am excited about attending school here.  Jamie & Kathy have both made it an account to call me a lot and check on me to make sure that my campus visit went ok & to make sure that the enrollment process was going smoothly. I  hope that I continue to have a positive experience with this school.

I had a similar experience

AUTHOR: Diva23 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, February 14, 2009

I was at Regency Beauty Institute for quite some time and had a very similar experience. My class and I were treated like children and everyone, including the teachers, brought their personal drama to the school. I constantly heard from the teachers how much they hated their jobs and teachers would mysteriously disappear without any explanation. My Regency location did have teachers who were older and more experienced. Many of them owned their own salons. That was probably the only plus. I got so fed up with the school that I left and transferred to Paul Mitchell. Paul Mitchell is run so differently and so much better! If you can leave you should because I am so happy with my decision to transfer.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

response to Regretting regency

While reading the content of this report, one must sit back and think. Issue 1. Going from 4 days to 5 really is a benefit to the student. You will have access to more hours thus graduating earlier and securing a career faster. This extra day is only 4 hours mind you. Issue 2. Cell phones ipods mp3 etc. They are not allowed in the class room. How do you expect to be able to hear a lecture or be on your feet doing your work while texting? The phone is ONLY taken away if the problem can't be resolved by asking the student to keep those items in their locker. Issue 3.
The dress code is just that-A dress code, professional dress black white or grey. Funny you forgot to mention that once you achieve star status , you are able to wear any color as long as it is still professional dress (i.e. no open toe shoes, belly shirts or jeans-unless its Thursday (jean day)) . Yes you were instructed to wear this and if YOU CHOOSE to wear something that you know will get you sent home then that is your own fault. Issue 4. You feel as though you are "stuck" If following the rules, and acting like an adult is to much to handle, then maybe this is not the best choice for you. There are other options for cosmetology education. Keep in mind they will also have policies and rules as well.
I wish you all the best in your future.

Seriously?

Sadlythat is how most small minded students feel. I know at Aveda, we all felt suppressed by all the rules and craziness, but what these students don't understand is that this is adult education.act like one or you'll feel the repercussions. Yeah, you have to dress professionally, yeah, they're going to monitor your breaks.welcome to the real world where there are going to be expectations of you!!!! The very same things happen at a salon!! If you abuse your breaks, they'll find someone to replace you just like that! There are too many people who are willing to work that have a work ethic and aren't immature and irresponsible. Grow up, I say. I don't know about the whole talking about students thing, but that happened at Aveda, too. It happens everywhere. Deal with it. It's office politics, and yeah it's wrong to do, but the same things happen out in the industry!!! Don't even try and tell me you don't get a crazy client, and the moment you walk away from the chair you have some nasty things to say about them. That's the industry!!!! And if you can't handle it, yeah, you're going to end up at Great Clips!!! However, by the sound of things in your above complaint, I doubt you'll make it through the program.....
