Please avoid Richmond American Homes at all costs. Contracting with this builder will only cause you stress, heartache and lost money. If you do contract with Richmond American, expect to be strictly held to everything you agree to, while they will not expect to be held to their own commitments. Expect to be told and shown wonderful things before you deposit, only to be told afterward that those things won't be happening after all, but sorry, your deposit is non-refundable. Expect to be lied to, and to have information withheld from you -- even when you ask for it directly. Expect to incur attorney's fees to deal with the trouble. Expect sleepless nights, upset stomachs and tears. Expect that Richmond American will not call you, even when they've promised they will. Expect blame-shifting: any delay, error, or missed promise is the fault of the city/county, a sub-contractor, you, etc. I'm pretty sure nothing that has ever gone wrong on a Richmond American project was ever their fault.

I feel like the stupidest person in America for contracting with Richmond American to build our family's home. Please, do yourself a favor -- you have other options to build your home, choose one of them.
