There was an annoying program forcing pop-up ads while browsing and I was looking to contact Norton's tech support, since I paid for their virus protection and thought they could help me get rid of this program called Lookitup. I mistakenly clicked on a link that at first appeared to be Norton's technical support. After a short chat with a rep, I received a phone call. They requested remote access so they could better see the issue and I agreed. The rep named Ben with a heavy Indian accent opened up notepad, then opened my computer's config system and showed me over 56K errors. He then told me that there was a process downloaded into my system that made my computer vulnerable and he told me it had been compromised and hacked. He said that to fix my computer and prevent this from occurring again, I should pay $99 for a Windows support registration, and $199 for a lifetime coverage with them. I asked him why wasn't I covered for this with Norton (I was still under the assumption that I was dealing with Norton) and he said that they simply don't. He then asked if he can reduce the fee and told me they could do it for $199. I agreed and once he sent me a form confirming the services, I realized that the name of the company is RiseZone. As I was on the phone with him, I started googling the company and quickly saw several complaints online. I asked him what RiseZone was and "Ben" claimed that they handled tech support for Norton. I told him that I did not like what I read and didn't want to proceed. He told me that there would always be disatisfied clients and that I shouldn't trust what I read. I told him I don't trust him, immediately ended his remote access and hung up. After more research on the process that had so called "compromised and hacked" my system, I read that it wasn't harmful. He pulled up things that I did not know nor did I understand to force me to believe him. I was smart enough not to pay, so please DON'T FALL FOR THIS.
