I ordered set of front and rear centric rotors and wagner brake pads from Rock Auto. After installing them I had squeaking noise from the brakes which was not present before replacing the parts. I waited for about 400 miles before replacing them to be sure that the new brake pads bed in with the new rotors so that the squeaking would stop. But, this did not happen and I got my car brakes inspected by multiple mechanics and all of them confirm that this is due the brake pads. Rotors seem to be fine.

 

I called Rock auto to ask them if they would be replace the rear brake pads as there is a lot of noise from these pads and the mechanics confirm that this is because of wagner brake pads. To my surprise I was told that squeaking is not covered and its normal for brakes to squeak. I called the manufacturer (federal mogul) and they said that I can return the brakes from the place I bought them if I am not happy as far as they are under warranty and also, if something is wrong with the brakes, they will cover labor to replace them as well. I waited for about a week and called Rock Auto again to let them know that this sound is bad and I need a replacement. I was told that I will have to place an order for a new rear brake pad set if I do not want the same brand (wagner) pads and I can return the original pads. However, they would not cover labor as its a LOT OF PAPERWORK FOR ROCK AUTO. I agreed to pay the labor so that I can replace the rear pads(this time I decided to get centric pads) and no longer have the squeaking sound. I was also provided a prepaid return shipping label to return the rear brake pads once I replace them with new centric rear brake pads.

 

After I replaced the my rear pads, I could still hear squeaking sound. This time it was lighter than earlier one and not as frequent as earlier one. The sound was from the front brake pads. I called Rock Auto and suprisingly I was told that as I bought Centric rear pads, I cannot return the wagner pads and I wont be covered under warranty. Hence I wont get any refund for the brakes I ordered. I was suprised to hear that and I demanded to speak with the earlier representative who emailed me the shipment label or a manager and the customer service hung up on me twice. The third time around, I was told that I can certainly return the earlier pads but, they most likely wont refund my money because this is the first time someone who bought wagner pads is returning and they are certain its something to do with my car od rotors. When I informed this representative that the rotors I have bought is also from Rock Auto, he tells me that its certainly my calipers which are making noise when I brake. How convenient for him to shift the blame on my car. After fighting with them for days, I have lost the money for parts, paid for labor twice and customer service hangs up on you. What can I one do to them because they are in Madison half way across the country from where I live.

 

I have had the worst experience ever with them and to be honest this is my first ever post online on a forum so that people learn from my experience that rock auto is definitely cheaper than most online stores but their customer service, return policy and unwillingness to file paper work with manufacturer so that the customers can get their money can help one understand how they can be so low priced. They have the worst customer service I have ever seen and I would recommed everyone to stay away from them. Its nice to find parts which are cheap but, remember if you have to keep replacing your parts more than once then, labor is on you, you cant return the original part to them and that will be far more costly than buying the same part from a reliable auto part store.
