Ron Carter Hyundai Bait and Switch Schemers - Mandy Gallaway and Christian Karamitsos , Friendswood-Clear Lake Texas

Oct 18 I find a 2013 Hyundai Sonata Limited for $18912 on Car Gurus and email Ron Carter Hyundai, Christian emails me back and states that he personally walked to the lot, that it is on the lot and available. Oct 19 I run a VIN check and find the exact car listed as SOLD on another website that Ron Carter Hyundai advertises on. I email this url to Chris to see if it is available or if there is a mistake. He confirms it is available, but then stops emailing me. Oct 22 Since I cannot get Chris to respond to me, I email Mandy and give her the VIN and Stock numbers and she confirms that the car is still available. Oct 27 I am able to pay cash because I deposited an insurance check so I email Mandy again to confirm the car is still on the lot. She says it is available and to come in. I schedule a time with her. Oct 28 My husband takes off work, we go in (with cash) to purchase this vehicle and are told, they are completely out of 2013 Sonatas and then the salesperson brings us a 2014, with a MUCH higher price. He said he could not find the car we were talking about in his inventory. Oct 28 I confront them about lying to us and he just shrugs his shoulders. We leave. Oct 28 As a test, I write to Christian and ask if the car is available. He tells me it is listed as available on the inventory. But then later writes and said it sold at 9 PM the evening of Oct 27 but was still on the inventory. Which of course is a lie because I saw where it actually sold sometime before Oct 19 and the on-site sales person said it was not on the inventory at all. I believe he found out that we had be in and were angry so he was covering up his lie with another lie. Oct 28 Gar Gurus still list four, 2013 Sonatas for sale by Ron Carter Hyundai, after telling me there were none, so they could push me into a 2014. This is a deceptive practice and is a bait and switch scheme, and it seems to us that both the Internet Sales and on-site Sales people are in on it. After going through this, I've seen 3 other bait and switch stories on Rip Off Report and 4 similar stories on Yelp. These people are dishonest. I'm glad we got up and walked out. If they repeatedly lied about the car being available, I can only imagine all the other lies they would have told us. The primary purpose of the DTPA is to protect consumers against false, misleading, and deceptive business and insurance practices, unconscionable actions, and breaches of warranty. Public enforcement is done by the Texas Attorney General, who can seek a court order prohibiting further deceptive practices. A private citizen may seek redress for damages caused by certain specific acts and practices listed in the DTPA. Because the DTPA is very broad and is constantly being interpreted by the courts, it is impossible to explain its complete meaning and impact in this short handbook.
