5 years ago, while in the middle of moving into my first home a very persistant home security system sales guy came by and convinced me to sign up for home security monitoring services.  Of course being a new homeowner I fell for his BS.  I was stupid enough to sign a contract for 5 years and I did it honestly because I just wanted to be rid of him!

I accepted responsibilty for that foolish act and paid the monthly fee for 5 years.  Today, July 17th the day before my contract ends I called to cancel my service.  They informed me that I had to cancel 30 days prior to the en of my contract or it automatically renews for 1 year!

Okay I don't know about you but how the heck was I supposed to remember the fine print on a contract I signed 5 years ago???  I don't even have a copy anymore.

This is a cruel and unfair business practice that we must stop!

I called the company and calmly explained my situation to operater 259, then to Supervisor Mari then to another gentleman in the escalation team to no avail.  They all said they intended to make me pay for another year and would not cancel my service even though I called 1 day prior to the end of my contract.

I feel a class action lawsuit is in order here to stop predatory sales tactics like these!  If anybody on here has a similiar story, please feel free to reach me @ (((REDACTED)))

You mean actually ALLOWING the consumer to CHOOSE to continue with your service is not an option?  I signed a 60 month contract and I honored it!  You trick clients into renewing by putting this BS verbage into the contract because the company knows darn well that 4 years and 11 months down the road the consumer is not going to whip out the contract and read the fine print.

It's extremely sad that companies like Safe Security systems has to rely on these tricks to keep their client's money.  It's okay because eventually it will catch up with you and you will be out of business!

You can't sue someone for holding you to the terms of an agreement. In eleven months send them a cancellation letter via registered mail.
