Four Years ago I signed a 3 year contract with Safe Touch for monitoring at my residence. I paid cash for the full 3 years and got great service from them during this period. At the end of my contract I recieved not notification from Safetouch, just the new monthly bill. I continued service paying the monthly bill which I was never once late on.

We started to remodel our house in August of 2007 and I called to ask if they could suspend my account because I did not have sensors on my doors or window or the alarm system hooked up anymore due to the full remodel of my account. They told me that I could not do that, I had to pay the monthly fee in order to keep in good standing with Safetouch. Then I said that if that was the case I would like to cancel my contract. They took a message and about a week later another rep called me and told me that my contract automatically renewed after the 3 years was up. I was shocked because I did not sign anything.

I went back in my files and looked at the original contract and there is a clause stating that I have to notify them with in 30 days of contract termination via us mail that I would not like to renew. Since it is already one year later I am now trapped in this contract and feel that this clause was a horrible little clause to make it so you can never get out of your contract. Currently I have Safetouch at my personal business and I am in contract for 5 years with this system.

I have no issues with the commercial contract but I did make a note on the file that I need to terminate the contract before our 5 years is up by certified mail. But as for my home I am now paying 27.00 a month for nothing. I do not want to put Safetouch in my home now after this but I am not sure what to do.

I had heard about class action items against Safetouch. The same thing happend to my sister. I need help. Like I just stated due to this issue the last thing I want is Safetouch in my newly remodeled house after this entrapment issue.

Safe Touch Came through

AUTHOR: Llibhart - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 12, 2007

I just got a call from Safetouch stating that since I am a commercial customer and signed a 5 year contract for my business they will cancel my residential account in good standing. I have since recieved my Account Closed In Good Standing from Safetouch and a refund of the monet that I have been paying since I first contacted them in July. I must say I was not expecting it since I had to talk to about 6 people originally to get it closed and did not get anywhere. The girl that called me said that she was auditing a ex-employees paperwork and found my request to cancel and they appologized for the delay.

But after all of this I have put on the front of my commercial account folder the contract auto renewal date so I can cancel 30 days prior with a certified letter. I do not like sneaky contracts and or contracts that are only for the seller and not in support of the buyer. All I can say is we learned our lesson and please inform other of this clause in everyone of Safetouch's contracts.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Security companies have automatic renewal clauses. Unfortunately you signed off on that

Most alarm companies have this automatic renewal in effect. Since it was in the contract you signed you have to abide by it. Did the contract renew for 3 years again or just a year?? Check out the language.

I doubt any class action suit would do much good since it is in your contract which you signed. Wouldn't be so bad but you signed a statement saying you read it.

No reason why you can't have them come out and reattach the sensors so you can get some value from your alarm in the meantime.
