I started work at Pinkerton in October of 1992. Securitas took over a few years ago. In all the time I worked for these companies I never once took off sick. I always showed up at least 10 minutes early to my post. If a fellow officer was late or didn't show up, I stayed till I was properly relieved.Recently the client I was working for (Optima Batteries) moved their production to Mexico. I told Securitas that I needed to have certain hours. My wife works nights an would not be able to change her hours. And that we have a child at home that needs to have someone with him at night. Securitas was aware of this situation.

A few days ago they offered me a post that was 30 miles from home an the hours were to end at the same time my wife would need to leave for her job . I told them this would not work out for my family. They then offered another post. but it still would not get me home in time. So I declined. They then told me that if I refused another post once more , It is their policy to terminate my employment. Well they did come up with one more that had even worse hours than the previous two. I of course had no other choice but to refuse the position offered.

Today they gave me my walking papers.I feel this was highly unfair practice. I told them I was willing to wait it out, an if some post came up that had my certain hours I would be very willing to take the position. But no, I broke their policy.I hope I can find work somewhere.I don't recommend anyone to work for this company.

WELCOME TO THE "WONDERFUL " WORLD OF FOREIGN-OWNED CONTRACT SECURITY GUARD COMPANIES

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 12, 2009
What happened to you is standard when a security company loses a contract. Because of your good service with Pinkerton, I guess they reassigned you to another post.

( Don't expect them to keep records of your service with Pinkerton because when they bought Wells-Fargo, they PURGED ALL and ANY RECORDS THAT I HAD EVER WORKED THERE!Same for Burns, American Protective Service and Pinkerton and all the other places I worked that they bought up.)

If the contact had been with ALLIED/BARTON SECURITY, THEY WOULD HAVE TERMINATED YOU, LIED ABOUT THE REASON FOR YOUR SEPARATION AND DONE EVERYTHING THEY COULD TO KEEP YOU FROM GETTING ANY UNEMPLOYMENT OR EVEN ANOTHER JOB FOR THAT MATTER. And the same for Wackenhut...

AT LEAST SECURITAS OFFERED YOU ALTERNATIVE ASSIGNMENTS AND DIDN'T JUST MAKE UP LIES ABOUT THE REASONS YOU LEFT...

SO MAYBE THE SWEDES WHO TOOK OVER ARE WEEDING OUT THE INEFFICIENT, INHUMANE MANAGERS LEFT OVER FROM ALL OF THOSE HALF *** PEOPLE FROM THE HALF-*** CONTRACT SECURITY GUARD SERVICE PROVIDERS AND ARE MAKING THIS COMPANY INTO SOMETHING I WOULD BE PROUD TO WORK FOR... JUST MAYBE.

Under the circumstances you describe, I really think they were doing the best for you that they could.

These are difficult economic times! A lot of companies just can't afford private security now. Not only that, because of industries' fear of the new EXTREMELY HIGH CORPORATE TAXES THEY FEAR WILL BE IMPOSED BY THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION MANY COMPANIES ARE MOVING OVERSEAS--for instance, a lot of energy companies in the US recently moved their corporate HQ to SWITZERLAND!

THIS MEANS MORE CLOSINGS AND FEWER JOBS AND FEWER DEMAND FOR PRIVATE SECURITY, ONE OF THE FEW REMAINING RECESSION-PROOF BUSINESSES LEFT HERE.

I am impressed that you were at least offered alternatives to NOT being employed.

Now, either they wanted to get rid of you because you had worked with Pinkerton and bring in someone that had always worked for Securitas --bring in their own people and DELIBERATELY gave you bad post locations so they would force you to quit.

Because employee LOYALITY, PRODUCTIVITY and LACK OF ABSENTEEISM MEANS NOTHING TO MOST OF THESE PEOPLE--ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

You must have a good crew to work with in Colorado.

I don't think you have grounds for a lawsuit UNLESS you can prove that they singled you out for discrimination or that they had better alternatives that they were telling you about in deliberate attempts to force you to terminate your employment with them.

You might even have a hard time getting unemployment since they did try to give you alternatives when your post went down and that account was terminated through no fault of your own. I would try for it anyway because there is an exception here where I live for conditions that would impose an excessive hardship on you--e.g., a 30-mile commute one way, especially if gasoline prices start to gouge again. I don't know how Colorado runs their employment commission.

Since THEY fired YOU under possibly the excessive hardship, e.g. long commute, you need to file for unemployment anyway. And appeal the decision, not because of your family situation because employers do NOT care --and neither does our State about the family situation. They do mind a long commute... I would try to find out what justifications your workforce people have for you declining available work and apply them to my situation when you file for unemployment.

It looks to me like they did everything reasonable to provide you with another working place and after all, in a right to work state, YOU work at THEIR convenience.

If I were you, I would file for retraining funds available under the DISPLACED WORKER PROGRAM---WIA which is administered by your state's employment commission...They pay for you to be retrained.

Jobs that are good are accounting, hospitality and chef jobs, teaching jobs, computer repair jobs, apartment maintenance jobs --general plumbing, HVAC , painting, electrician knowledge...healthcare jobs.

Autobody repairpeople make a lot of money here. The engine technology may change but people are always messing up their cars.

You might want to consider applying for a corrections job as a jailer --it is a steady living and they are ALWAYS needing jailers -- the county jail is safer than the state penitentary because those guys do not want to get more time by acting the fool and they are usually better behaved.

Or if you have a state felony jail nearby or a juvenile corrections unit close by, you could put in an application.

THEY WILL TRAIN YOU, provide uniforms and usually meals and all the rest. Just remember to always count the prisoners and make the rounds and make sure they are all accounted for and that nobody is committing suicide and that everybody is still alive, etc.

Good luck.
