Shopping Essentials Unauthorized Credit Card Chages Des Plaines Illinois

Shopping Essentials had been charging my credit card from Jan. 2007 until March 2009 before I noticed the charges. The charges ranged from $9.95 to $13.95 per month. I notified my credit card company, telling them that I did not agree to any membership with this company and did not even know who they were or what the did. They responded by telling me that they were issuing temporary credit to my account but after the their investigation Shopping Essentials may return the charges to my account. The credit card company said I needed to contact Shopping Essentials directly.
I did contact the company and when the phone was answered I was prompted to key in my member number, which I did not have. Then I was prompted to key in my home phone number or the credit card number that the membership was billed to. I was reluctant to put in the credit card number so I used the phone number which did not bring up anything. So I used the credit card number and then was transferred to customer service. Once I explained to the unwilling customer service representative, Donna, what I was calling about she said that the membship was cancelled. I asked her if the charges had all been credited and she said that 6 of them had but she could not tell me if any more would be or what the total credit would be. I asked for a supervisor at that point and she argued that it would not be any different if I spoke to a supervisor. After telling her that I could just let my lawyer handle the situation she tranferred me to a supervisor. She was very helpful and assured me that I would receive total credit for all charges and even gave me her name and ID number for verification.
I am not happy at all with this experience even though I will get my credits. I should not have to go through this at all. Good luck to all of you our there in the same situation. Just be forceful and do not take "NO" for an answer.
