Renewed my gold membership to Classmates on Mar. 17th on Mar. 24th Shopping Essentials charged my debit card 19.95. I didn't notice the charge until they charged me again on Apr. 20th. I Googled Shopping Essentials and up popped Rip-Off Report. The more I read the madder I got. I contacted my bank, they removed the Apr. 20th charge and filed a complaint about the Mar. 24th charge.
I called Shopping Essentials this morning and they said that they would remove the Apr. 20th charge but would not refund me for the Mar. 24th charge since I did not cancel in the alloted 7 day period. I told them that my bank was coming after them for it and that I was filing a complaint against them and Classmates. Went to Classmates, told them that I thot. that their practices were dubious and that I would not be doing business with them again. The bank told me never to use my debit card to order anything, always use a credit card, it's easier to recover transactions on credit cards.

Why Do You Want To Pay Money For This? Can't Afford it, Don't Get it!
AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

Out of curiousity what is this site about that you would want to pay money to them anyway?
I mean absolutely no disrespect to these people who run the website because I don't know what they are selling but I don't think I could use it or need it my life and so I don't buy it. I can't afford it anyway and there is no way I can pay them cash and I sure am not going to send it in the mail.
I think most of what is offered on the Internet is a scam anyway, especially if it wants MONEY from you and if it asks you for your financial information or your personal identity information. TO PUT IT ON THE INTERNET EVEN E-MAIL IT TO THEM!
I ONCE LOST $200 I PUT INTO A PAYPAL ACCOUNT FOR ME AND IT JUST DISAPPEARED BEFORE I COULD EVEN BUY ANYTHING OR NOT. NO ACCOUNTABILITY! THE US GOVERNMENT THAT REGULATES BANKS AND FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS COULD DO NOTHING OR WOULD DO NOTHING FOR ME!
I DO NO FINANCIAL BUSINESS ON THE INTERNET HACKER PROOF OR NOT!
I HAVE NO CREDIT CARDS AND NO DEBIT CARDS!
CASH IS KING!
Remember that and you will never be scammed by the online tricksters.
ONLY USE THE INTERNET FOR RESEARCH AND WHERE TO FIND THE BEST DEALS. I RECENTLY BOUGHT A GREAT CAR WITH JUST A LITTLE WORK OFF THE INTERNET FOR $1,000 BUT I MET THE PEOPLE AND I PAID CASH TO PEOPLE AND THEY GAVE ME THE TITLE. I contacted the people on the Internet and now I own a car.
Nothing beats dealing with people face to face.

Classmates.com Responds
AUTHOR: Debra - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Tuesday, April 22, 2008
Classmates.com contacted me this morning via email with the following explanation:
"In order for your Shopping Essentials+ membership to be activated you would have had to enter your email address twice and selected the "Yes" button. By selecting Yes you authorized Classmates to provide your information to Shopping Essentials+. Immediately below the boxes where you entered your email address is the statement: "By clicking "Yes" I have read and agree to the Offer Details displayed to the left and authorize Classmates to securely transfer my name, address and credit/debit card information to Shopping Essentials+, a service provider of Classmates".
The Offer Details, which were provided next to the Yes and No Thanks buttons, stated the length of the free trial, auto renewal information, the amount of the subscription fee, as well as a toll free number for cancellation. In addition, during the trial membership, Shopping Essentials+ sends out a welcome email so that you may cancel and avoid being billed after the free trial period."
I am telling you that this did not occur. I did not enter my email twice, I was did not see any of the things mentioned above when I renewed my subscription with them. I was not "welcomed" by Shopping Essentials via email. BTW Shopping Essentials told me yesterday that I was sent a $10.00 gift card for joining them. That, too, did not occur.
This is piracy!
