I bought Skyway's internet service as a present for my folks. I was told it would ship immediately. 3 days later I called and asked for a confirmation of shipping (since I didn't receive a confirming e-mail), and I was told they were back-ordered for at least 3 weeks. I whined a little and they said they would ship a unit that had been turned down for delivery and returned. When I received the unit a week later, I had it installed by a local tech guy (Skyway has no installers in my area) who had it up and running in about 3 hours.
Out of the gate the service was intermittent at best. We would show a perfect signal always, but sometimes it would connect and sometimes it wouldn't, sometimes it would freeze up after connecting, just basically a random chance of whether you would get online. This was NOT a weather issue, as Skyway wanted to assert. Nor was it a computer issue (I tried another computer) as Skyway also tried to tell me. I talked to their "tech" department many many MANY times, with little result. I sent them a copy of all of the error logs their modem recorded (hundreds) and they could never tell me what the problem was. They sent me out another modem (little improvement) and billed me for it. I called and asked for a return authorization twice and they wouldn't give me one.
I finally called my credit card company and put a dispute on the charge. I'm taking down their crappy system and I'll get a real system from a legitimate company. The stupid thing is, if they would actually hire someone who can provide technical assistance to the public, we might have got this worked out. I finally got them to admit they don't let the public talk to their tech guys, so when I asked for tech assistance I was being routed to customer service. CS was very friendly but not helpful. Too bad. Sorry Mom and Dad. My mistake.
