Someone from Slomin's came to our house regarding heating oil. At the time he told us the price had just recently gone up 10 cents (which we later discovered was a lie). Since prices had skyrocketed the previous winter, we believed him and decided to sign up. He informed me that we would only have to receive a minimum of 400 gallons and once we had we wouldn't have to use them anymore even if we used 400 before the 12 months were up. It actually says 400 gallon minimum on our contract. He also informed me that if we had to relocate before the year was up and had proof of this, they would give us the deposit back.

Today I called to renegotiate the price since it's dropped 50 cents since we signed the contract. They said they would adjust the price for a fee of $99. I then confirmed that I could just cancel after 400 gallons and was told this was not the case. Even though our contract states we have a 400 gallon minimum and the salesman and his supervisor told us we could cancel at that point, we will lose the deposit if we cancel. Since they lied to me about that, I asked what would happen if my husbands job was relocated before the year is up and was told we would lose the deposit. She said they would work with us but never said they actually waive the cancellation fee. So I'm assuming they'd maybe knock a small amout off and consider that working with the customer.

I asked to speak with a manager but apparently you can't speak to one right away and they have to call you back at their convienience. So hopefully I'll hear back from someone today but I highly doubt it and I'm sure it won't do any good anyway.

Wow, thanks for being a d*****. I KNOW I signed a CONTRACT. I'm not an idiot. I'm just pointing out that the salesperson LIED about a few things. I called to renegotiate the price which isn't the real issue. The issue is that they told me one thing, my CONTRACT confirms what was said (that I had to order a min of $400) but the company stated I can't cancel at that time. I spoke with a manager who did inform me that if we had to relocate we would get our deposit back. SO the customer service rep who was rude about that was WRONG. (See, I can RANDOMLY capatalize words TOO.) How about you get a life and not be a d***** and butt in with useless comments. Thanks. ;)

If renegotiation is allowed by the CONTRACT then by all means try it. But the reality is that YOU SIGNED A CONTRACT!!!! Perhaps its the irresponsibility that the American Consumer has or just a general lack of actual caring on the consumers part, but MANY companies have switched to contracts. The reason being that consumers who one day are a customer can flip over to being a SCAMMER when LIFE doesnt go thier way. All it takes is something hitting you that YOU dont expect and BAM!!!! YOU dont pay a bill. Or you put off paying said bill until its more financially COMFORTABLE for the consumer. Right then and there the consumer has become a scammer. While its prudent to hop on a deal especially after the cold of last winter. THEY used a bit of a scare tactic, but only a small one. While im sure YOU did research online, YOU dont have access to the information of day to day operations. So YOU cant say for sure that the salesperson was lying. They COULD have had a price increase of $0.10 THAT DAY.

However that is all a moot point. The ONLY relevent information here is that you signed a contract.
