This company has the worst service and the worst product I have ever experienced. I have had nothing but trouble since this breathalyzer unit was installed in my car. It goes off sometimes every two minutes, sometimes every five minutes, and sometimes just all of a sudden. I have missed over four tests because of the faulty quality of this unit. I requested to have the unit replaced, they would not do so. I requested someone to go over my download reports so they could see the problems, they would not do that either. I spent some time on the phone with technical support explaining to them what had been happening, and while they did admit the unit was not working properly, they blamed the disfunction on my automobile and not the Smart Start unit. I have missed over four tests in just six months and it was always a shock when I received the report in the mail. Each miss was surrounded by long periods of driving and blowing and I simply had no explanation for the missed tests. Smart Start takes no responsibility for any faulty behavior from their units and does not offer any assistance in repairing or replacing the units when they are clearly faulty. I finally decided I would switch to another company after having the unit countdown and go off every two minutes for three days. I explained to the Smart Start technician that this was not only a nuisance but very unsafe. His response was, “how is that unsafe?” I suppose having both hands on the wheel and having your attention continually diverted to blowing into the unit while driving is just ok. When I called Smart Start requesting an appt. to have the unit removed, it was only one week after I had just gone for my download and paid them $75 for each month - the current month, and the following month. They were not willing to give me a refund on any time even though I would not be using their product for that period and would not be utilizing their services. They also indicated they would be charging me an additional $75 to remove the unit. The manager, Steve, as well as the receptionist indicated that they do not prorate or return any money. How can an organization not refund your money when you have cancelled their service due to the product being faulty? This organization does not take any responsibility for the problems with their product, they do not help the customer to have the unity replaced when faulty, and they refuse to refund or prorate any money when the product is clearly not in working order. This company is awful, the product is not reliable, and they are not ethical in their fee practices. Do not use Smart Start, their are other companies. Research them, and find them to avoid having missed tests, and other problems that will result in the loss of your license and more legal troubles.
