On 11-24-11 I went to the Sony store at the Cherry Creek mall in anticipation to purchase a new VAIO Notebook computer similar to the one I had purchased a few years back from the same store.
( I found this computer to be great for travel because of the light weight.)
After about a 10 minute wait (with which I had no problem) I received the attention of a salesman. I told him what I wanted and within minutes I left happily with a new Vaio Notebook Z2 which I was told was the upgraded faster & better version of my old computer . I proceeded to go with my daughter to the Apple store for her purchase of the new I Phone. When we arrived at the Apple store, I told my daughter that the box seemed heavy and wondered if I received the right computer. She suggested that I open the box to make sure since we were still at the mall .
After I removed a piece of 2x4 inch tape which held the box closed, I found the box to contain the computer with a external dvd drive (power media dock, which seemed to weigh more then the computer itself) ) I closed the box and immediately took it back to the store. I proceeded to the sales counter and told the person behind the counter that I just made this purchase, but it was not exactly what I was looking for. I explained that my old computer has a build in cd drive and that the new computer did not have the same feature. I also mentioned that the new version with the external cd drive makes the overall product altogether heavy and inconvenient for my travels. The sales person seemed quite irate toward my response and told me I can just find something else or be charged a 15% restocking fee since I had opened the box. I replied that I really dont want to deal with him because of his attitude and asked to see the manager. He told me that he was the manager and gave me the name of John Neuner. I told him that I think he needs a class in customer relations and he responded with "I am calling security". I shook my head in disbelief and said this is totally wrong, do what you need to do just give me a refund. He left and after 15 minutes of waiting ( he never came back & security never came) another employee refunded me $1,989.13 of the initial total purchase price of $2,289.12
I got ripped off for $300 and all within 1 hour (Based on time stamped purchase & refund receipt)

Sony Rep.? Just call me stupid!

No, I was not sold what I described and IT WAS NOT WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. I was looking for the updated version of my Sony laptop computer with the internal optical drive. Misunderstanding or not, unless you work at the Sony store in the Cherry Creek Mall in Denver, CO., do you really think that it was justified to penalize me $300 for returning the (untouched) computer within the hour? It's not just the $300 that prompted me to write this report. It's the attitude and inconsiderate behavior of the sales manager and the treatment I received. I have spent thousands of dollars over the years on Sony. I did not expect this from Sony!

Do you always?

- Do you always spend over $2200 and not even look at what you bought. It doesn't even look like you looked at the floor sample to see how it felt and looked. What if your computer is no longer as light as you want?
Perhaps the Salesman did try to sell you something you didn't want, or perhaps he just mis-understood based on what you "told" him. The fact is that you wouldn't be out $300 if you had taken the time to actually look at your $2200 purchase.
I am curious about one of your other statements.
After I removed a piece of 2x4 inch tape which held the box closed, I found the box to contain the computer with a external dvd drive (power media dock, which seemed to weigh more then the computer itself)
- You actually never did mention that the actual Laptop was too heavy. You don't need to take the docking station or external drive with you. According to Sony the Z Series only weighs 2.5 lbs. So why exactly would this computer not work for you?

Ripped Off? Shafted For Sure!

Great response! Your response qualifies you to be an excellent salesman at Sony. It sounds like to me this "Manager" was just upset because he was going to lose commision on the sale and did everything in his power to redeem a small portion.

The salesman sold you the item you described. You purchased the wrong item because you were careless and inattentive. You failed to look at your $2300 purchase until after you left the store. You were not ripped off.
