In 2006, my daughter was involved in a single vehicle accident, while driving her 2004 Jeep Liberty. According to her, the vehicles right front end dropped, sending her into a telephone pole. A witness stated that the wheel came off the vehicle, and the vehicle careened into a telephone pole. Two vehicle accident reconstructionists investigated the scene, and found that the assembly housing the lower ball joint came loose, causing the right front end to drop.
We immediately went to our State Farm agent. As she entered the accident information in the computer, she advised us that there had been problems with the lower ball joint in Jeep Liberties in that year, especially those that had approximately 25,000 miles. Her mileage was 24,000 and some change. We kept the defective parts with us.
When the adjuster came to see us, all he wanted to talk about was buying a Harley at the local dealership. He wouldn't take the parts or the many pictures we had of the accident scene. We waited for three weeks to receive our check for the vehicle, which was a total loss. When we raised a stink about our check, we found out that the check had been sent to Allstate...............we didn't even have insurance there.
Anyway, we received a recall letter from Jeep, stating that the lower ball joints in the Jeep Liberties were possibly defective. The next thing we know, State Farm sends us a letter stating that they were dropping the claim because there was not enough evidence that the accident was caused by equipment failure. What? Two reconstructionists, a recall letter and witnesses. What else could they want?
All it means is that our deductible cannot be recovered, and our rates will increase because they are going to rule the accident is our daughter's fault. Stay away from State Farm and Jeep Liberty!

Insurance is not responsible when Jeep is at fault

When there is a recall issued, you must take the car to a Jeep dealership for correction. since the accident was caused by something that was faulty with the Jeep, insurance is not responsible for repairing the car, Jeep is.
I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty and did receive the recall notice and I took my car in for repairs. If you received "another" notice then you never took the car in after receiving the 1st notice. That is your fault.
And good luck trying to buy a car model that does not have some kind of recall on it. Jeep vehicles are not bad because Jeep issues a recall.....

I do not know what CR's reliability data show for the Jeep Liberty, but I bet the Liberty is rated "Below Average".
Don't wing it again when you buy another car. And if you simply must buy a car rated as having poor reliability by CR, at least you will know what you can expect.
