State Farm Insurance Ripoff Like a good neighbor NOT, EVIL, HEARTLESS, Willard Ohio
*Consumer Suggestion: Was it term insurance?
*Consumer Comment: I wouldn't be complaining here
When my husband and I bought our home we took out a life policy on us, if anything happens to either one of us that policy would payoff our home. A year later my husband was diagnosed with cancer. He had surgery and radiation. 4 years later the cancer came back with a vegance. Was told it wasn't good.
My husband's friend works for State Farm (a reason why we went with State Farm). So she knew what was going on. To make it short. We received a letter from State Farm saying we were dropped from this policy because his cancer progressed. Basically you have cancer, you're dying and we are not paying. Thank You for all the money you gave us.

Was it term insurance?

If it was the end of the term (typically every 10 years) they can refuse to issue a new policy because the person is sick.
Otherwise you do OWN them now.
Also be very careful to keep premiums paid up, this is an old insurance tactic. When someone is deathly ill the premiums will get forgotten, and then the policy is cancelled.
I hope your husband gets better.

I would complain to the Insurance Commission. I belive this is illegal. Your life insurance policy can't be dropped because you have a life-theatening illness. And, how did they find out about it? Your 'friend'? If so, that is completely illegal, a patient's medical information cannot be divulged to a third party without their express written permission. So, if your friend took it upon him/herself to inform State Farm of your husband's condition, you can sue the pants off of them.
