Sylvan Learning Center ripoff Fired because I cared South Portland Maine

I am Mary Whited, the owner of the South Portland Sylvan Learning. I take pride in the commitment of our in-center teachers, and our staff and students are treated like family. As Sylvan celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2009, we have helped thousands of Maine students develop the skills, habits and attitudes needed for lifelong success.

I feel sorry for anyone sucked into the Sylvan scam. It's a system proven not to work, the instruction is NOT one-on-one as they claim, it's an all-out waste of money.

Individuals would be far better served to hire a private tutor. Teachers looking to make a little extra cash would be far better served doing private tutoring. Sylvan is a real joke.

Being a former worker at Sylvan, I know everything, and understand, what former employees are saying about the company. It is a rip off, the testing is a scam, teaching students to actually learn is discouraged ( and you can be fired for doing this, unless you sell out and take Sylvan's advice on how to teach, you know the keep the kids dumb so we can make money method ), the teachers are only paid 10 bucks an hour when on average Sylvan is making upwards of 150 per table, Sylvan is using ancient textbooks and workbooks that couldn't possibly account for the low pay that the teachers are getting, the Sylvan corp. discourages center directors from spending money to train teachers instead they expect the money to be spent putting asses in the seats, Sylvan goes out of its way to pay its workers as little as possible, AND FINALLY yes the job is an insult to anyone that went to school for over 5 years.

Overall, Sylvan is a joke and a scam and I don't have a probably telling anyone that will listen.

Oh yeah and one more thing, why would so many former employees that have never worked together or at the same location, be saying so many similar things?????? I don't think you need to enroll at Sylvan to figure that one out......
