My wife and I decided to purchase a sleep number bed using Synchrony as our creditor to pay for the bed. The salesman at the time told me the interest would begin accumulating after 12 months so we wouldn't have to worry about it until then. On Christmas day the interest rate kicked in, but was a lump total of nearly $1700! Merry Christmas to me! Instead of beginning the interest at that time, it had been accumulating the entire time and Synchrony REFUSED to acknowledge the dirty sales tactic of our salesman.

During the course of our billing time with Synchrony, I lost my job and was unable to make total monthly payments although I offered what I could and was happy to go on a payment plan. Instead of helping me out during a serious down time in our lives, Synchrony had people from the Phillipines/India demanding money on the phone to pay, calling over 9 or 10 times in a day harassing me at my new job and my pregnant wife. Also, our autopay would at multiple times mysteriously turn itself off so I was unable to pay and was then given more late payments. (They have at least refunded 3).

DO NOT BORROW MONEY FROM THESE PEOPLE. Do not purchase sleep number bed using Synchrony Financial. They will WILL NOT work with you based on bad information given by indecent salesmen.

I thought about letting this go until I read the last "rebuttal" no doubt written by an employee.  The lying and refusal of Synchrony to do anything about our issue was the start of our entire problem with this bank.  All anyone else has to do is read the rest of the reviews online about the customer service issues others have faced while using this bank.

While it's true our problem escalated with our situation and fault on not making payments on interest we were critical of, we did fail in making sure to read through each statement thoroughly to see that we had been lied to.  The least Synchrony could have done was to help launch an investigation into the sales tactics being used by our Sleep Number sales agent or helped us on any amount at all in regards to the interest - bottom line here, read your statements and research Synchrony before deciding to borrow with them.

You Didn't Read The Details, Did You?

Typically these interest free deals work like this: They are interest free if paid off before a certain date. If not paid off by that date, you incur interest from the date of purchase. It's all in the paperwork which you apparently did not read. Secondly, when you agreed to the deal, you promised to make payments in full and before the due date. It was YOU who failed to do that. This bank is not your friend and they are under zero obligation to "help" you, me or anyone else who agreed to the terms of the contract. They are a business and not a charity. If you don't like bill collectors calling...you pay the bill like you promised to do.

Sorry this happened to you

I definately feel your pain as to what happened, but this is not a rip-off.  I have an account with the same bank.  Quite frequently, I make purchases that qualify for their 6-month deferred payments.  The recipts have always stated that if the balance was not paid in full by the end of the 6 months, that I would be charged interest from day 1; even there is a balance of 1 penny.  It states that on their website as well whenever I check my account online.  I even have a Home Depot and Lowes card that does the same thing.  So unfortunately, you were not rip-offed.  You just didn't know how it worked.  There is a difference.
