Tele Check Discrimination Christiansburg, Virginia

Today, my wife and I went to Walmart to pick up a few things, normally I would carry cash or use my debt card but with the problems MC and Visa are having I chose to write a check, not a new thing just infrequent. I got through the line and was declined by Tele-Check,  I was rather pissed and spoke with both manages on duty and then called Tele Check. To my surprise I was advised that my check was declined because I did not have enough statistical information on file for check writing, no returned check, no bad info just did not fit the statistical profile and was a risk. My first question is why are they maintaining information about my spending habits and who gave them the authority. No answer, my second question is why they needed all my personnel information. My third question was much like the first but in a little different words because I kept told that it had nothing to do with my finances or ability to pay only that I write so few checks that they consider me a risk.

I find it ever increasingly difficult to understand how private companies like TeleCheck or the credit bureaus can have wrong record and store incorrect information and nothing can be done to stop the discrimination let along the embarrassment because the cashiers are not trained to understand the codes used.
