I purchased a new GE dishwasher on December 8th in the London store and took delivery on December 18th. On December 18th, the delivery personnel did not tell that I had 24 hours to inspect the product. He had me sign a form and he told me it was to say that the deliveraly personnel didn't damage my home. They didn't damage my home. There was no discusion on damage to the product. Nor was there any apparent damage to the box.

Upon opening the box, past the 24 hour period, I found out that there was significant damage to the dishwasher. The damage is so great, that the door shows a great amount of damage. The door will not fully open. The bottom panel is bent. The frame might be damaged. Even if I could get the door replaced, I doubt this dishwasher will not leak water ever because the frame might be out of alignment. Based on the damage to the dishwasher, I suspect the box was dropped from 6 feet or more. So if I were a guessing man, I'd conclude it was dropped in a warehouse somewhere and not during delivery.

Customer service has been no help. They've told me because it was outside the 24 hour period, I'm completely out of luck.

Looks like I'm out $720 and this dishwasher is going to the scrap metal yard. Before I do that, I'll try and file a claim with my credit card company, but I'm doubtful anything will come of it.

Mr. Tepperman: this is not how you do business! I'm sorry it got damaged in a warehouse somewhere. But that doesn't mean you should leave me with a hunk of metal sitting in my kitchen. This 24 hour rule is for something "small" that happens during delivery like a cut on a couch or scratch on a piece of wood. It's not for a dishwasher that has been so blatantly dropped
in a warehouse that it is rendered nothing more than a chuck of scrap metal. I had no chance to inspect the product in the first 24 hours.

Thanks.

Update

AUTHOR: Unhappy customer - (Canada)

POSTED: Monday, January 05, 2009

I have now been told that my dishwasher will now be replaced. I am very happy. I think the customer service rep was initially overzealous. But in the end, Tepperman's made things right. I will be sure to check my new dishwasher within the first 24 hours. Thank you!

Signed,
Happy Customer.

Upon opening the box, a few days later, I found out that there was significant damage to the dishwasher. The damage is so great, that the door shows a great amount of damage. The sheet metal of the (corner of the) door is actually ripped by 15mm which indicates a farily substantial impact. The door will not fully open. The bottom panel is bent. The frame might be damaged. The slots where the hinges go in may be damaged. Even if I could get the door replaced, I doubt this dishwasher will not leak water because the frame might be out of alignment. Based on the damage to the dishwasher, I suspect the box was dropped from at least 5 feet.

Customer service has been no help. They've told me because it was outside the 24 hour period, I'm completely out of luck

Looks like I'm out a lot of money. I don't know what I will do with this dishwasher. I hope this issue can be resolved amicability and within reason.

Mr. Tepperman: this is not how you do business! It clearly got damaged before it got to my house. But that doesn't mean you should leave me with a hunk of metal sitting in my kitchen. This 24 hour rule is for something 'small' that happens during delivery like a cut on a couch or scratch on a piece of wood.
