On 24 June 2012 we bough a dining room table and chair set on the woodbridge, VA Roomstore. At the time there was a "Big Sale-Liquidation" poster in the window. We bought a dining room table and set of 4 chairs from the floor sample - and 2 additional chairs that were coming down from their warehouse in Waldorf, MD (brand new). We were to pick up the furniture at the Woodbridge store on Wednesday 27 June 2012.  At the time we were also getting a new driveway and the concrete had not set yet, so they agreed to let us pick it up on 28 June 2012 (the next day). We went there and now there is a bankruptcy sign in the window. The people there - not the same people who just a few days before had sold us the furniture - were nasty. They said they were out of state liquidators who had to "inventory all items - even those already paid for and set for pickup on the loading dock". we were informed to pick up our furniture in two weeks. What are the chances of them even being there in 2 weeks?? Calls to the customer service number at their HQs - 1-866-287-3203 have gone answered - no one there to take our call so had to leave messages with "customer service". Bottom line, they stole $860.96 from us. Apparently the whole company is going down because the same is true of the Manasssass, VA office.  I am so sorry I ever went there.

We Finally Got Our Furniture - With a Hassle

AUTHOR: Suzanne - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, June 30, 2012

The Room Store did relent and gave us the furniture that we had paid for. We were originally told that we could not get our furniture - paid for days before - because the Roomstore was now in bankruptcy (keep in mind this was a matter of 4 days after we had bought and paid for it). We were given this great news on the day we had arranged to pick it up at the store. The same person (who told us previously that she was not affiliated with the Roomstore - that she was an out of state liquidator and had no connection to the store) called us and instead of being nasty again, butter would not melt in her mouth. She told us they "had gotten permission to release our furniture". Gee, I wonder why. We had contacted our state Senator who's office intervened with calls to the store and to their headquarters. I had also filed a report with Ripoff.com AND had notified our local newspaper that I had a story for them and explained the circumstances. I also filed a report with our bank to recoup the money (we had paid for it with a Visa debit card). I am convinced that with all of this, they figured this was just more trouble than it was worth and they decided to just give us the furniture that we had paid for.

This was a terrible experience but I learned a valuable lesson: never, ever, ever buy from the Roomstore (if they survive the bankruptcy (their website says they are "restructuring" and never, ever buy from anyplace (at least not large items like furniture) that says they are "liquidating" their inventory. This is just another name for bankruptcy and they might as well hang a sign in front of their business that reads "thief". Oh - and they had the NERVE to send me a survey to complete on how my experience was. To everyone reading this" BEWARE OF THE ROOMSTORE.
