I was approached by a man at a 7-11, and he showed me his speakers in the back of his trunk. He claimed that he worked for Denver Audio, and that he had an overshipment and needed to get rid of them. The box said $2500 for the system, but I bargained him down to $250. Afterwards, I checked them out online and discovered that many other people have been scammed like this. I got the man's license plate. It was a Florida plate with the number, H80 STV. His car was a gray GMC with a 'cattle-catcher' reinforcement over his grille. He had custom fog lights as well.

The website: http://www.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/3/4019.html
has much more information on these scams. I just want to catch this guy before he scams more people.

"Theater Research" brilliant marketing scheme goes on misunderstood

AUTHOR: James - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 15, 2005

I sometimes go online to see what products you have listed to watch out for. But, I must say that what I've read about the company "Theater Research" I definitely disagree with it! I too was approached by a couple selling a surround sound system out of the back of their truck. The box also stated the price of the system was $2,500.00. I decided to check into a possible good deal for myself. Before we started to bargain about the price, the couple alllowed me to look inside the box. To my surprise, I found five (5) chrome plated speakers (extremely heavy in weight, meaning heavy magnets to handle the watts) and a very large woofer (that looked extremely expensive). We agreed on a price that was a fraction of the cost on the box. Eventually, had this surround sound system installed to a new projection Home Theater System (cable,DVD,X-Box,etc.) When I questioned the technicians about the surround sound system they installed for me, they stated that "they had never heard of the Theater Research System that I had purchased". But, it seemed to be a very good system! I think it was a brilliant marketing scheme for a great product. I felt that I was just truly blessed to have been able to purchase this product. I read some of the articles about this situation. But, none of the authors stated how the system was after it was installed. I'm sure they feel the same way I do after their installation. Finally, I think it's only fair to "Theater Research" home theater system to print this rebuttal of this particular product. I do not work for "Theater Research". I'm just a consumer who feels like they received a great deal on a very good product.
