Hi, I hope people read this and learn from it (the easy way, unlike what I went through).

Some guy drove up to me in a white van yesterday and asked if I wanted a stereo system. He explained that he had two home theater systems loaded "mistakenly" onto his van, and he was looking to make a few bucks under his company's nose.

He showed me the systems (being "professional" TR-8200 home theater systems) and indicated that they were brand new and had never-been-used.

I had a really fishy feeling about this whole deal, but after haggling me down to $260, I decided to take a chance and make the deal, figuring I could sell them and make a profit. Jeez, what a mistake. I later looked up the speakers on the internet and found several other reports like these. I doubt I'll be able to sell them on e-bay; they're everywhere on that site, with nobody buying. My dad called the cops, and they're now investigating the matter (though apparently, I'm not the only one who's been stung in the area recently).

Fortunately, one good thing I did was make the guy give me a receipt. He wouldn't give me a phone number, but provided his name and the company he works for (though I wonder if they're real, or will do me any good).
The guy's name on my receipt is Dwayne Marino. He's a caucasian male in his late 20s-early 30s, with brown hair. He's about 5 foot 11 to 6 feet tall. His company is HiTech Audio, which I found is located in Brampton, ON. I plan to give the police this information when they call me back.

I hope that I can get my money back, but I know my chances are slim. Lesson learnt: avoid fishy deals like these at all costs!

ARE YOU A SUCKER ???

AUTHOR: Terry - (United States of America)

To the people who are complaining about how they got a ripped-off on a home Theater system by TR. Theater Research. I will say to you know that you did it to your self. As for me I bought one of the high end ones TR 8200. I was not so dump to buy one from back of a van or some discreet place that any person with the smaliest amount of common since knows that it will be a rip-off or your going to get riped-off. But the American people are always looking for that good deal and will believe anything they are told  until they get taken and then yell how unfaire it is that it happend to poor me. No I bought mine from a stereo electronic person who had a store who he him self fell for the line like the rest of you had (again another sucker). (WC Fields said there is one born every min.) he was complaining just like you are and he continued to complain all the time as I walked out the door with that New in the box TR 8200 system that I paid $80.00 cash for from him and I got 30day returne policy. I like the system so much that Im trying to find a set of new matching 2 satellite speakers to add to it. If anyone has a pair that they will sell chip let me know. Read and learn so it will not happen again but if you are like most people if it happened once it will happen to you again becouse most will not learn or listen espially when they say the magic key words.WONT A GOOD DEAL

Terry

Don't do stupid things

You thought you were getting a great deal on stolen items. You got a bad deal on cheap speakers. It's 100% your fault. I'm not even sure this scheme is illegal: it's just a marketing technique and it's not particularly fraudulent, considering you had the opportunity to inspect the speakers. There is nothing illegal in selling an $80 speaker for $260, it's called capitalism.

What makes you think the receipt he gave you is legit. I mean you bought from a guy selling items from a van. You ever watch movies?
