Ultimate Power Sales, Inc (UPSI) Aka United Family Circulation Scam... sports team selling books for trip, donate books to Boys and Girls Club. Ripoff! Sugar Hill Georgia

Well... like many others who have posted here, we got scammed. A guy came to the door last evening and said he was a neighbor and was selling magazines/books for his baseball team to go on a trip to Maui. He said that if there wasn't anything we liked, we could just donate books to the Boys and Girls Club where his mom worked and his mom would pick out the books so that there won't be duplicates. We got the sympathy card played on us because we were starting to feel bad for him so out came the check book for $66.

After the deal was done, my wife and I both agreed that something didn't feel right. I decided to search the web and see if I could find any info on UPSI. Boy... talk about a reality check and feeling disappointed.

We called the bank and put a stop payment on the check. We also initiated a security alert on our credit report just in case the scam goes beyond selling books.

We also decided to follow the cancellation instructions on the back of the receipt and send UPSI a copy of the notice of cancellation. It'll be interesting to see if UPSI responds... I doubt they will.

I know this was definitely a scam because the guy went as far as giving us his sister's cellphone number if we ever needed a babysitter. The number was not in service when I called it to see if it was real.

Anyways, another lesson learned the hard way. We normally don't buy anything from door to door solicitors, but because we didn't follow our own rules and our gut feeling, we got scammed.
