I was contacted by phone on August 4th. The caller, "Jack", informed me that I had been chosen by his company, "Unified Services" to review their products and give the company valuable feedback information for future maketing promotions.

For my trouble I would receive a free $1,000.00 on-line shopping spree.

The products offered where services I currently have, internet service & long distance service and a bottle of diet pills, shich I do not need.

I should have known better!

I was asked to pay the shipping and handling charges for these services and I did authorize payment of 1.95 from my checking account. I agreed to this because there is no Christmas money this year and I thought I could use the shopping spree to give my children a few Christmas presents.

I really did not expect to receive a full retail value of $1,000.00, but even if the true retail value was $250.00 it would be more than I could afford this year. When I went on-line to check out the shopping spree - What a JOKE! The products are "free", but the shipping and handling charges are higher than the retail value of the products.

The cost of services I was asked to review were as follows, Internet Service $17.99 + a one-time set-up fee of 28.95, long distance service 25.90, a 30-day supply of diet pills for 27.97 for a grand total of $100.81. My checking account was charged $149.80 for products and services I did not use.

When I called customer service to cancel long distance services I did not authorize, I was informed by "Dianne" that by giving them my checking account number I had accepted their terms and agreed to pay for these services. I told her to refund my money immediately. She told me to call back when I was not angry and hung up.

I called again, "Jody" did say that she had cancelled my service but that I could not receive a refund. I asked to speak to her supervisor, she told me her supervisor was busy, I said "I'll hold" her response was "not on my line you won't" and hung up on me.

I called customer service for internet service and informed the operator that I wanted all accounts in my name cancelled she informed me that she was sitting next to "Jody" and that my accounts had already been cancelled. I asked to speak to the person in charge of refunds and was informed that my only recourse was to file a complaint via fax.

I have informed my bank of the scam, but I have been told there is nothing they can do, and that I owe them for the check that did not clear and $50.00 in fees!
