Unique Insurance Company is like many other small, corner shop, "Joe's Insurance" type of companies.  They make their money issuing policies and gamble you will never have to use them.  If there is a need for you to use them, they will "insure" that they either stall or frustrate you to the point that you give up, which is their goal.  If they do have to pay out, they will give you the tiniest fraction of your demand.

The purpose of these (and similar) low-cost alternatives is to provide you with state-minimum coverage for drivers who typically have a poor driving record already, and wouldn't be touched by the big companies (e.g., Progressive, Geico, Snake Farm, Allsnake, etc.)

Our company leases cabs and one of our drivers was struck from behind by a Unique-insured driver.  Unique Insurance's driver hit our car so hard from the rear, our driver hit his head on the steering wheel and was forced to go to the hospital.  Unique Insurance claims that the driver never went to the hospital, despite our sending him all kinds of copies of the bills.  He also claims that Chicago Police never appeared on scene (which is true), and due to that, the station report made is invalid.  Now, for those not in Chicago, CPD will not come out to the scene unless you're bleeding in the street (and maybe not even then).  They don't typically come out on scene for routine traffic accidents.  Additionally, Unique Insurance's driver never reported he was in an accident, we have to write a nastygram to get his information, since he fled the scene.

Unique Insurance claims that our driver changed lanes into him, but the fact still remains that they hit our driver from the rear, indicating either speeding (failure to reduce speed) or following too close.  Naturally, Unique is denying our $4K+ claim.

As a result, we're hiring an attorney to sue to reclaim our damages.

ADDITIONAL RIPOFF INFORMATION

AUTHOR: Chicago Medallion Management Corp - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 16, 2010

As is typical with these kinds of companies, they keep asking for the same information, over and over again, which we have provided to them each and every time they stalled, or asked for more information.  It's very likely that they just throw away the information when they have it.  Companies like this are ripe to be sued, they just gamble that they won't be.
