I was contacted via mail that my manufacturer's warranty was close to or already over.  I called the company and was given information about a plan to help cover costs for auto repair.  (I was made aware that the company was neither affiliated with insurance or the manufacturer's company.)  I was given a quote for a premium coverage plan, told that I had to take the offer right then or it wouldn't be available again, and I took the offer.  I was happy at this point and felt that I had signed onto a great alternative to paying out of pocket for repairs, towing, and rental cars.

A belt blew in my car, and I had the car towed to a local shop.  The mechanic called to make a claim and was told that I wasn't covered.  Even if I was covered, they would only pay a portion of the cost, even though I had a premium plan.  After calling to speak with my agent Michael, I was told in no uncertain terms that they would not pay for my repairs, towing, or rental car because I was in a probationary 90 day period (+1000 mi).  I was told that there was a recording of the original call and was made aware of this 90 period then.  I feel that the language used on that day did not clearly emphasize this to me; I did not get to hear the recording myself.

I was then transferred to LLoyd, a customer service manager.  He attempted to keep lowering my payments over the coming months, but never offered to assist with the repair at hand.  After letting him know that would still like to cancel my plan, he became very aggitated.  He accused me of calling his employee a liar, stated that I had an attitude, and kept making sarcastic remarks about me and my ability to asses short term fixes vs. the big picture.  Simply, he tried to scare me by giving hypothetical outcomes of cancelling, referring me to ask assistance from my family for the repair so that I could keep making payments to an insurance company that wouldn't cover me.  He also stated that my car was "broken" and it was sure to "break" again.  Without United Auto Protection, Lloyd iterated that I was going to be left without options or a car.

I asked for a confimation of cancellation without any fees.  Lloyd said that their company does not offer that to any of their customers and that I was no acception.  I was advised to simply wait around for my refund.  If the refund didn't go through, I would have to call back in and "track" it.  After arguing to get a confirmation of any kind to acknowledge my call to cancel, he finally consented to send me an email stating as such.  He then hung up on me without another word.  I have not recieved this email yet.

THIS COMPANY USES SCARE TACTICS AND LOW PRICES FOR SEEEMINGLY GREAT COVERAGE TO DRAW CUSTOMERS IN.  I DID NOT CONTACT THEM, THEY CONTACTED ME.  THIS IS A FISHING SCAM, THAT GIVES YOUR PLAN OUT TO THIRD PARTY COMPANIES TO HANDLE CLAIMS AND FINANCING.  BUYER BEWARE!
