I sent an 80gig ipod to United Camera for a battery replacement. The ipod was five years old, and did not hold a charge for very long at all. When I found United Camera's website, I was able to obtain an estimate for the replacement of the battery, and the price including return shipping was $25. I contacted the company in order to make arrangements for sending the ipod in for repair. They emailed an order number to me, so that once they received the ipod, the order number would have the reported problem already filed. About two weeks after ,I mailed out the ipod, I received an email stating that upon further inspection, the ipod needed to have the charge dock, hard drive, and logic board replaced, as well as the battery. The total charge for these repairs came to $189. I called customer service to inquire about these so called necessary repairs, and the woman I spoke to gave me some explanation which I could not understand whatsoever. I then told her to just send my ipod back to me, and to not perform any repairs. So in the mean time while I awaited the arrival of my ipod, I went on to YouTube to check out videos on repacing the battery for my particular ipod. The procedure looked quite simple, and therefore I ordered a battery from eBay. The total cost of the battery was $7.00, and included free shipping. I installed the battery immediately after my ipod arrived, and the entire procedure took about ten minutes. The unit powered right up, and I then allowed the ipod to charge for several hours. As we speak I am listening to my ipod, and there are no other issues with the unit. That being said. I truly believe that United Camera intentionally tried to rip me off for $189. The repairs they said my ipod needed in order for it to work, were completely un-necessary.

United tried to OVERCHARGE ME TOO for a camera repair

AUTHOR: cranberrysoup - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, September 25, 2013

I tried to have a camera repaired at united and I got the same nonsense. The cost skyrockets after they look at it. I was able to get my camera back after I knew they were trying to scam me.

Then I sent my camera to a place in El Paso Texas called Precision Camera and boy has that ever been a mess. I probably should have just got ripped off and overcharged by United Camera and been done with it. Precision Camera has been even worse though that still doesn't say anything for United Camera, they tried to tell me that everything in my camera was broken and needed to be replaced. Funny how that same thing happened with your iPod. I smell a SCAM!

Not sure if the Better Business Bureau can help us with something like this. I pretty much have up on my camera repair.
