United Legal Processing Division Harrasing phone calls San Jose California

I received a phone message from United Legal Processing Division today. The person spoke with a heavy and broken accent. He had my name and quoted the last four digits of my social security number. He said that there was some legal action against my social security number, but most of what he said did not make sense. He gave the name of some officer to contact and left a phone number. I did a reverse phone lookup on the number. It was unlisted, and although an exact street address was not given, the White Pages site that I used to look up the number did give a map which pinpointed the street from which this landline was listed. There was no ID number that showed up on my phone either, which is usually a sign that this is not a legitimate business.

I did NOT call this person back. Instead I forwarded the message to a contact that I have in a fraud protection agency. It was suggested to me to not respond to the call because this person was most likely phishing for my information (he would want my full social security number and address for the purposes of identity theft). It was further suggested to me to contact Equifax to have a fraud alert put on my credit file (this is very easy to do and only takes a few minutes on the phone or via their website).

I followed through with both of those suggestions and highly suggest that if you are contacted by these people that you do the same.
