We quit USSD after 2 months of lessons that were very inadequate and very expensive. The instructor would tell the students to practice something and go into the office either to coerce a parent into signing a contract, or talk on the phone. After just a few weeks of my 8 year old son taking lessons, he said he was ready to test for yellow belt and it cost $75. He also convinced us the first week that he needed a uniform which was $120-another ripoff.

We gave the manager of the studio written notice in person of our cancellation and told him we found a local studio that was half the price monthly and no contract. The lessons at the local studio were very structured and informative. He said he was sorry to here that and nothing more.

The company never attempted to bill us again on my credit card that was given to them for monthly payments. We never heard from them again until we received a letter from a collection agency almost a year later saying we owed over $550. I had to call them to find out it was involving USSD. The collection agency said the only way to resolve it was to pay up and claimed they attempted to bill me by mail. I haven't moved and they had two valid phone numbers for me.

Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed with resolving this and making them clear my credit rating?
