The postal service is getting worse. I mailed my credit card payment 10 days, 8 buisness days before the due date. Mailed on 1-25-08 payment due 2-3-08. I checked my bank account on 2-4-08 and noticed the payment hadn't cleared my bank. I called the credit card co. and they hadn't received the payment. So I made a phone payment and the credit card co. only waived half of the late fee. I have worked hard to keep my credit in good standing since it went bad 14 years ago after divorce. Took me a long time to get it back to above average. On Wed 2-6-08 my credit card payment was returned from the post office tagged (return to sender, deliverable as addressed unable to forward). I used the envelope and address provided by my credit card company and have had no problems with this in the past. I went to the post office to file a complaint and was told to call 800-275-8777. I called the 800 number and filed a complaint. I know this isn't going to get anywhere or get anything done. It's just another complaint to them they still get paid.

In the past I have sent certified letters to customes on NSF checks and the letters have gotten lost and never returned to me. One certified letter I sent on 10-2-07, it finally came back on 1-22-08. At least I finally got this one back. Certifed letters are supposed to be returned back to you in 15 days not 15 weeks or months. One certifed letter I sent never did get returned, when I called the post office they said they had found it in Lewisville, so I told them to return it back to me, when it wasn't returned I called again only for them to tell me they couldn't find it. It was there one day and gone the next.

I have come to work and found 2 bills from credit cards outside on my bench at work. You could tell the postal worker had dropped them somewhere (looked like they have been run over by cars), someone else had delivered them to my place when I was closed so they left them outside opened on my bench at least I got them, but the envelopes were torn up from being run over and all.

I have sent a cashiers check for a payment and it also never got delivered. On cashiers check you have to wait 90 days before you can stop payment and it was for $5000.00. When I filed the complaint with the post office it was basically sorry about your bad luck. The letter or the check never did turn up.

One of my employees mailed his credit card payment in our outgoing mail. Instead of making it to the credit card company, some lady in Allen called and it was delivered to her house. The scary thing about this is it had his account number on it.

It seems the past couple of years the postal service is getting very bad. I have learned my lesson. I will not use the postal service unless I have no other choice. I have UPS-FED X, and will paying all of my bills online or delivering them myself. The sad thing about this is sometimes we have no other choice, but to use the postal service, to bad they don't have any competition. If I ran my business like this I wouldn't be in business.

This is a government service provider so what can be done. Basically I file a complaint and I will be told "sorry about your bad luck" again.

Mad as hell and can't do anything about it

The USPS does an awesome job

AUTHOR: Clifford - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, November 14, 2008

I am 66 years old and I don't remember ever having more than 3 or 4 minor problems in all that time. When we go to the Post Office for something, the employees have been very polite and helpful. The service is incredibly cheap compared to other services.

I may sound like I work for them but I never have and neither have any of my relatives or friends. I'm just a satisfied customer.

I've actually had more problems with some of other services although very few.

I think in most cases people are exaggerating greatly because it's fashionable these days to slam everything.

Have stopped using the post office

AUTHOR: Marie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, November 14, 2008

I thank everyone for their post and comments on this issue. I see I am not the only one with problems with the post office.

I do realise that some credit card companies hold mail till after the due date, but this was not the case in my situation. The bill I mailed was returned to me unopened not delivered by the post office it never made it to my credit card company. When I took it to the post office they said more than likely there was something wrong with the address bar code. OK, but the address is also typed on the envelope. Not only do they not provide the service they are paid for, but they can't read.

I have now stopped using the post office unless I have to. I have put all my bills online to pay. I have done the opt out with the credit bureaus to stop the junk mail from credit card offers and other junk mail. I am suprised at how doing the opt out cut my mail more than in half. I now receive my bills online. I have registered with several web sites to also stop other junk mail. Each month I receive at least 7 bank statements, both personal and business I have not been able to receive e statements, cut out the post office.

The only time I have to use the post office is when one of my customers gives a bad check and I have to send them a certified letter. The post has still managed to lose a few of the ones I've sent. I have only had to send out 4 in the last 3 months, but they managed to lose 2 of them, they did finally turn up but a month later (guess thats better than nothing). I try every means possible to contact the person who wrote the bad check and get it taken care of so I don't have to use the post office. I would rather be hit by a truck then go to my post office.

I wish there was something like the do not call list for junk mail, but the post office won't allow this. I've asked. You would think with everthing going green we would have something like the do not call list for junk mail.

My auto repair shop have been in buiness for 40 years and if I ripped off people off like the post office I would have not made it this long.

I am open to more suggestions on what can be done to not use the post office.

Hope you have happy days ahead

All I Can Say III

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, November 14, 2008

Read the other day where the post office is gonna lay off some 40,000 NON-UNION workers. There are currently 950,000+ USPS employees. It also stated where they expect to lose around 2 BILLON dollars this year. Do I hear another gov bail out coming? I have some good post office guys deliver my mail every day. They tell me the scoop about what is really going on at their sub-station. They are currently short handed there because they have around a half dozen employees who are out on sick leave, one for over TWO YEARS, but they can't replace them with live bodies because of the union and they can't fill their positions because then they would be overstaffed. How about those two postal employees up in D.C., the ones the post office paid over $200,000 for him to move 10 miles, the other one, like $185,000 to move a few miles more. Do I hear a 43 cent stamp coming?

Many credit card companies have been known to hold checks in their mail room till after the due date to get late fees out of you...This issue might not be the fault of the postal service.

Sorry that all this has happened to you, I hope in the future you will receive better service.

AUTHOR: Laura Mohler - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 13, 2008

I have read your report, and myself am very upset about the way you have been treated by the postal service. One thing they probably have never told you, and alot of people still believe is that every piece of mail is not sorted by humans. All mail is sorted by machines, based on the barcode the companies have printed on the envelope or by the machine trying to read someones handwriting. Machines make mistakes as do humans, and in no way am I trying to undermind your misfortune.

I believe the postal service has come along way, we process millions of pieces of mail a day at each branch. I have been an employee for 15 years, and try to do the best I personally can when I seen a missent letter, but because of the machines and how much mail each one processes a night, its not easy. I do myself as an employee of the Iowa branch want to appologize for all the inconvience that has happened to you, but please don't give up on us, most of us do try real hard. Sorry.

All I Can Say II

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 12, 2008

Saw on TV this morning where the post office is gonna raise the price of a stamp to 42 cents in May. One year after they raised it to 41 cents from 39. As I said before, the prices keep going up, the service keeps going down. Was in the post office Monday morning at 8:45. Was next in line to be waited on. The lady in front of me went to pay with her credit card. Just then, their credit card machines went down. I stood there in line for 20 minutes waiting for it to come up so she and the lady next to her could pay their bills. It was amazing watching the old lady take 20 minutes to look at every stamp they had available and then deceide how many of each she wanted to take, THEN the credit card machine goes down. After waiting in line for the twenty minutes, their machine comes up. I was paying cash. There were fifteen people waiting behind me when I left.

Who's writing nsf checks

AUTHOR: Marie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 12, 2008

Margaret I am not writing NSF checks. I work 2 auto repair shops and customers write hot checks, in Texas I have to send them certified mail before I can file them with the DA office. The only way to do this is thru the post office, but if I don't get them back after sending them to the customer I have to resend another certified letter at my expense and my time trying to collect. I would never write and NSF check for my bills. I do send my bills in plenty of time to get there thru the post office if they would do the service they are paid to do.

What am I to do when I send payment in the envelope provided by the compay I'm paying and the post office won't deliver it. I have no choice but to pay bills online, deliver them myself or phone pay. I have learned my lesson with the bad service I have been getting from the post office. It is so bad that when I have no other choice but the post office I document when where and what I am mailing. I only use the post office as a last resort. I filed a complaint about the last delivery that wasn't done at they don't even bother to call you back.

WHY ARE YOU WRITING NSF CHECKS??

AUTHOR: Margaret - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 11, 2008

If you were not bouncing checks you would not have to write to these check agancies. I have rarely had problems with USPS, but sometines they leave a lot to be desired. Always mail bills at least 14 days out. I would never pay bills on line, too many problems with identitiy theft. Think it can't be done with on line banking? Think again, it can!!

Thanks for the response

AUTHOR: Marie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 11, 2008

Thanks for the comments. Steve I know I can do something about it and I have. I sat down Sunday and set all my bills up for online pay. I mean't that I can't do anything about the post office ripping me off. They have taken my money and not provided the service in which they were paid. This is happening alot in my area things get lost and never found, not delivered at all and returned or end up some where other than where they are supposed to go. To me this is stealing. But with it being a government office who do they have to answer to? I have filed compaints with them several times to only be told sorry about your bad luck.

I refuse to send anything thru the post office and will use UPS or FED X in the future.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Marie, it's called ONLINE BILL PAY! It's FREE!! Save your 41 cents!

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 11, 2008

Marie,

What do you mean "can't do anything about it"?

I haven't mailed a bill payment in the last 3 years! I pay all of my bills for FREE online. I don't know of any bank that does not offer online bill pay service.

I pay mine for FREE. Fast and simple, and I keep the 41 cents in my pocket!

>>

It sounds like you are exaggerating a bit. I have never had a real problem with mail delivery.

And, compared to other available mailing/shipping services is still the overall best deal around.

My advice? If you don't like it, DON'T USE IT!

Real simple. The choice is yours.
