I received a call from a representative of Vacations Direct in February of 2008. He told me they had a shortage of inventory and needed more for an event coming up the next weekend. While they couldn't promise a quick sale, it was pretty likely. All I needed to do was pay their fee up front, let them go to work for me and make myself available via telephone to handle the price negotiations. I was told that if my listings didn't sell within three months that they would continue to market them for free. If they didn't sell in one year I would receive a full refund. I paid the fee via credit card and received the contract for signature in a short time. After reading the contract I realized that it was my responsibility to make sure Vacations Direct lived up to the agreement. I needed to notify them in writing prior to the end of the first 90 days that I wanted the marketing to continue. I sent this letter along with my signed contract back to Vacations Direct in the same envelope. I also asked for confirmation of receipt of the letter requesting my contract extension. In addition, I need to contact them in writing within 30 days prior to the expiration of the agreement to receive a refund. I never received confirmation of my extension letter. This prompted my first call, second call, third call fourth call.... you get the idea. After many frustrated calls I was told my rep was on vacation, sick leave, family leave, I had a new rep... Someone would call me back. I eventually did get a call assuring me I was important. At that time, I requested documentation illustrating what marketing they had actually done for me. I've never received it. After a couple more calls, I received a message that my contract was still in force for the remaining nine months. I never got this in writing but did save the message on my answering machine. I was also told I was now going to get the attention I deserved and boy howdy they meant it. I've never gotten one call on either of my listings and do not expect to. I haven't any proof that they have done anything except give me the runaround. I have absolutely no confidence in this company. In the meantime I've been contacted twice by other Vacation Direct Reps wanting me to sign with them to provide much needed inventory for an upcoming event! They really need to clean up their lead list. I've been in sales for years, do my own telemarketing and my own client servicing. I've never treated a prospect or a client like this. I was suspicious when Vacations Direct first contacted me, but I gave in to the lure of a quick sale at a good price. While I can't prove they are scamming me, it walks like a duck and quacks like duck. I fully expect to get only lip service until my year is up and then excuses as to why my refund is not coming. I'm proof there's a sucker born every minute. Don't make the same mistake! I am going to contact the authorities listed on this site to complain.
