I took my car to Value Brakes due to a squealing in the front September 30, 2004. They looked at it and said I needed new brakes, which they replaced.
The squealing noise was louder and more horrible after I left the shop. Awful noises like fingernails on a chalkboard. After a few days I returned to the store.
The manager at the store refused to look at the car, saying that I got cheap brakes and they were just going to squeal like that. He offered to "upgrade" the pads for an additional fee.
This is not a minor noise. It is an ear splitting noise that can be heard from blocks away. If this is normal then their product is defective.
After four visits to this store and numerous phone calls to the corporate office in Florida, the problem has not been fixed. There seems to be communication issues with the main office and the branches.

If you paid 50.00 dollars or less for your brake pads, you probably got cheapies.
Michelle - Cedar Rapids, Iowa
U.S.A. SO PLEASE do reserach befor you post ty
you have no clue to what your are talking about,
as for working in a tire/wheel shop i used to do front breaks all the time.
and we used to use break pads that cost 25$ a set and we never had a complaint for squealing or squeaking!!
i would say thye have installed something wrong or put it back together Improperly or something is defective on your rotors such as *GROOVES*
i do my own front brakes on my 1995 ford probe i use breaks from auto thye cost 20$ for the front break pads and i get a Average of 2 years life span from them......WITH NO SQUEAKING OR SQUEALING.
MY ADVICE WOULD BE THIS.
TAKE YOUR CAR TO A WELL KNOWN qualified GARAGE AND ASK THEM TO INSPECT THE BREAKS AND THE SQUEAKING PROBLEM,MAYBE THEY CAN PIN POINT THE PROBLEM AND COME UP WITH A SOULTION TO YOUR PROBLEM. AND IF THE GARAGE FINDS THE BREAK PAD THEY SOLD YOU AT FAULT.THEN YOU CAN GO TO YOUR LOCAL DMV AND SEE IF YOU CAN FILE A COMPLAINT FOR Faulty WORK AND PARTS! THIS CAN BE SERIOUS BECUASE IF YOU GET INTO A CARWRECK DUE TO Faulty BREAK PARTS THEY INSTALLED ON YOUR CAR THEY CAN BE HEALD LIABLE"

Cheap Break Pads Will Squeak

If you buy cheap break pads, they will squeak. I don't know how much they charged you, but if they paid $10.00 for the pads they put on your car your out of luck. You might want to ask what kind of warranty they gave you then you could up-grade to better pads and not be charged for the labor. I work at an auto repair shop in Iowa, we don't use cheap pads for this same reason. The cost of R & R brake pads is probably higher but they are quiet brake pads with a life-time guarantee.
If you paid 50.00 dollars or less for your brake pads, you probably got cheapies.
