For over two years I have had four phones with Verizon Wireless. Three of the four contracts terminated in December 2007. I contacted VW in October by both phone and email regarding my intention to terminate these three phones on their contract termination date. I was told that I needed to wait until November, so I repeated this action in November.

At that time, I talked to a customer service rep who assured me that everything would be taken care of and that I would have one remaining line. However, when I logged on the day after Christmas, I found that I had a bill for almost $500.00 for early termination fees.

Outraged, I contacted Customer Service who gave me the big runaround. I asked to speak with a supervisor--but none was available and I was told I would be contacted in 24 hours. I waited to cool off and called back eight hours later and talked to another rep who actually gave me her extension and name (no last names of course!!!). I am still waiting to see if this bogus early termination fee will be removed from my bill.

My concern is that this is very similar to the Enron = inflate our value = scheme in that these Early Termination Fees go on the books and give the company a value it does not actually have--because these are manufactured bogus fees. The Attorney General needs to look into this before Verizon's employees find they have no money in their 401K's and their pension funds!! Also, I am sure that many consumers just pay these fees to save their credit rating. This all is soo wrong!
