For nearly a decade, I've had the same cell phone number and have not changed companies. Eventually my company (AirTouch) was bought out by Verizon Wireless. I rarely made any change to my service, only to cover address changes when I moved, or to call and see (after a coupl of years), if I could get a better rate. (I was long since "off" contract, and could switch if I liked, at any time.) Of course, the cellular/wireless companies don't tell you when there are cheaper plans available for you as an existing customer.

When I did finally call Verizon Customer Service to make a major change to my services (get a family plan and move my girlfriend's service service from a Family Plan with someone else, to my newly acquired Family Plan. In addition, since I knew I was going to have to commit to a 12 month contract either with a major change to my service, or as a result of taking advantage of any "FREE" phone offerings, anyway, I wanted to take advantage of a "FREE" phone offer Verizon had mailed me. My cell phone was old, heavy, clunky and didn't have very good battery life. It was only the second new phone since I had started my cell service a decade before.

That call to Verizon Customer Service represented the first complaint I had had with my cellular service. Sure there were a couple of dropped calls in the early years...but that was it. With this particular call, ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE, and I suffered endless "crap" trying to get the ensuing problems resolved.

After many months and failed attempts to get my problem resolved with Verizon Wireless Customer Service, including attempts to escalate the problem, in frustration, I finally contacted the CEO's office. As of today, I'd say my experience with the CEO's office was worse than with their Customer Services folks: the Customer Service folks made promises and NEVER did what they said they would do. (Like return my call as promised faithfully, to tell me what the problem was.)

Ultimately, after much time, a terrible bill, being turned over to a collections agency, and a hit on my credit record, the last voice contact I had with a Verizon Wireless "Executive Office" person, wherein that person was quite disparaging and seemingly very impatient with me personally, I'm beyond frustration, I'm into telling the world and anyone who might listen.
