Viridian Energy Variable rate program is unconscionable stamford Connecticut

 Consumer alert... I was shocked to look at a recent electric bill provided courtesy of Viridian and was stunned to see that my electric rate had gone up almost 100% in six months!  When I called to inquire the company told me that my home had originally signed up for a fixed rate contract that committed me to purchasing electricity for one year at .799/kwh; however, that fixed contract expired and they moved me to a variable rate program where the rate currently is .1499/kwh! 

Interesting that they still offer annual fixed contracts today at .0899/kwh...but if you fail to request the fixed contract, this company is willing to rip you off.  This past month with my electric usage clocked at 1773 kwh, means my failure to check the fine print has cost me more than $100 extra each month since my contract expired 7 months ago.  Yes, we all have a responsibility to manage our affairs, but how this company can consider themselve eco-friendly and then rip off people with false increases I can't fathom.  I'd like to see our politicians review this when they are looking at deregulation of utilities.
