My Mother, in her late 80's, signed up for Vivint 4 years ago. She did know it was a 4 year contract. When I tried 2 years ago to cancel the service I found out she was locked in for the 4 years. She either had to buy out the entire contract or sell it to some one else and let it be their problem.
I waited until the contract was due to be over and tried to then cancel it. You can nopt cancel by phone. Their policy is that you must write them a cancellation letter. I wrote the letter in March, 2012.
In May, 2012 I answered a phone call from Vivint wanting an update on credit card info. I refused them and after talking to five different people I was connected with theit account resolution dept. After explaining the situation Harry told me they did not have my cancellation letter on file and since it was not cancelled, they had automatically signed us up for another year. I could, within 30 days of the end of that contract again write to them and they would cancel at that time. I refused this option also. I informed him that I wanted it stopped now and nothing else would be acceptable. Once again I was told I could pay it off or sell it. These being my only options for resolution.
After much discussion and being put on hold several times it was decided that I could send them a copy of my origional letter and if there were any problems, Harry would be calling me the next day. I never heard from Harry again.
Now, in June 2012, I recieved another please update your credit card info call. I'm being told now that I am indeed locked in for this year and that they recieved my copy of the letter 7 days later than their time limit for cancellation. I sent it the night I spoke to Harry! I refused to update and was informed that after 3 months it will be sent in for collections.
I did everything they asked and am still locked into this scam they've figured out? I have tried everything. Now they are telling me that IF I could just prove I actually faxed the letter back in March, they could cancel, but this is the only way. Since it was faxed from a home machine, how in the world am I supposed to do that?
I honored the origional contract. I did everything that was asked of me. Why should I have to pay on this thing that I do not want for another 12 months and still have no guarantee it will end then? How do I get away from these people and their system?

Help with the fax machine
AUTHOR: Kella - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Friday, August 10, 2012
I just wanted to help you out in this as my husband and I have gone back and forth since we got installed on Aug 8. We actually cancelled Vivint this morning and they tried to tell me they had not received the fax over an hour after it was sent. I don't know what type of fax machine you have but I have a printer 3 in 1 and it gives the option to print a full fax report. I told Vivint I had the fax report in hand and only then did they admit to receiving my fax! You should be able to print your fax history no matter what type of fax machine it is, and my report states the date, time (even thought the time is set wrong the date is not), the number it was faxed to, how many pages, and if it went through okay. It's a push and shove company and I have read the terms and conditions, but I also know the cancellation policy....don't allow them to push you and if they do push back and knock them down. This company really really needs a restructure not just a rename. I spoke with 4 different reps this morning and 4 different stories and the last one was very very young and very very uneducated about how things work in the real world. He really did try to move around the subject of receiving the fax but since I brought up times, the date, and names there wasn't much ground for him to stand on and I flat out told him I was reading it from the report I printed off my fax machine this morning...he fell from his glorious high spot of saying what we want to hear and admitting it was attached to my account. Now since they won't deal with me and get this done today, they will deal with my husband and if we don't get through a lawyer will be contacted by the end of the day. But play around with the fax machine for a bit and see what it's options are because they all have a report option somewhere it's a matter of finding it!
