I purchased software from VueScan designed by Scott Hamrick.  The software works fine but Hamrick apparently wants users to upgrade to capture more income. Today the application was killed in the middle of an operation.  Not knowing what was going on, I re-entered all the original date: email address, serial number and customer number.  The return message was that I have to upgrade to continue using the software without having it watermarked by Hamrick.  This seems like an illegal action.  I own the software, not the rights to the software.  By watermarking it in order to force an upgrade he has essentailly taken back what I paid for.  I've never seen anything like this.  Why would I ever upgrade software from a company that will periodically kill the software so that I would have to pay the company more music.  Upgrades are optional in every case I've encountered in my 35 years using a computer. I've never seen such outragious behavior.  I'm filing this report because I want people to be aware of the situaiton. Scott Hamrick has ripped me off so a Riipoff Report is exactly the right thing to do.  DO NOT PURCHASE VUESCAN SOFTWARE.  YOU WILL BE RIPPED OFF.  

 

I'm submitting this as a community service because I wish I had know this before I paid Mr. Hamrick $50 or so for something he'd take back.  I don't have the time to for a law suit but I think this is a no brainer.  A class action seems appropriate.  Wouldn't it be nice to see Mr. Hamrick have to refund everyone he ever ripped off with this unconscionable practice.

BTW: I couldn't find any physical address or telephone number.  Of course, if I was ripping off the thousands of people Hamrick is ripping off, I would never let them know how to find me. Not everyone would stop at an internet report.
