On June, 14, 2006 I was standing with my little son in line to pay for our groceries. This was at a Wal-Mart store in Apache Jct., AZ. In front of us there was a bad smelling guy with a huge revolver at his side, he looked like he had broken out from some institution. Then there was some kind of dispute with the cashier and the guy turned extremely agressive. I feared that the next moment he would pull out his gun and start to shoot at everybody around him. Fortunately that did not happen but it has happened numerous times that gunmen started shooting at store employees and customers at McDonald's and other places.
I asked a Wal-Mart employee why they let people with weapons into their stores and she told me: "Because it is the law in Arizona."
This is absolute nonsense: there is no law in Arizona that businesses have to allow their customers to carry weapons in their stores. The stores have the right to put a sign onto their doors that tells their customers to leave their weapons outside. When I asked the store employee why they don't put a sign onto their door and when I told her that I don't feel safe at places where people run around who believe that you need a Smith & Wesson in order to buy a package of eggs, she told me: "It is not our fault, it is a corporate policy to let anybody with a weapon into our stores".
Nice company that cares more about the freedom of a few maniacs than about the safety of the other 99.99% of normal customers and their children.

I have to say I agree with the vast majority of the respondents.
If the original poster is so convinced that it's Wal-Mart's job to stop these dangerous people at the door, I wonder if he would be interested in working as a greeter in his local Wal-Mart.
Then he can personally ask these people to leave their guns outside. Its a win-win!

Gun Control...
AUTHOR: Paul - (U.S.A.)

basically means controlling where that muzzle is pointed. In Tennessee, we also have what amounts to "make my day" laws. Most of the states have adopted concealed gun permits now, and almost all of them respect other states' carry permits. Most of the exceptions are in those "bleeding heart" states (Northeast). It would be interesting to see how their crime rates compare to the states where a citizen is actually allowed to defend themselves according to the U.S Constitution (the right to keep and BEAR arms).
I have a permit, and my friend Mr. Glock goes wherever I do. I have never had occasion to call on him, that may be because most people in the south know that most others are probably armed.
As for the man at an Arizona Walmart, he chose to wear his firearm exposed. I wonder just how many other Walmart customers were packing concealed weapons...Let's face it, if a crook knows that a large number of ordinary citizens are packing heat, he is less likely to try something. That's a statistical fact according to law enforcement officers in Tennessee. Numbers also show that in those states that allow concealed carry, just because a large number of citizens are armed, the shooting rate has not increased but in fact has decreased.

God bless Arizona - every State should have this law!!

I don't own a gun. I don't know if I ever would but, I also believe that if you choose to own one that is your right.
Here in Oklahoma we have the "Make my day" law which basically says if someone threatens to do you harm in your home or on your property, you have the right to blow the b*****d away! This law is about to be changed to anywhere someone threatens to do you harm, not just at home.
Could you imagine how much the crime rate would drop if every State had laws like this?
If criminals knew that honest, law abiding, citizens where going to blow their backsides away; then maybe they would choose an honest way to make money!!
This guy did nothing wrong. Walmart was just abiding by State law. I don't see the rip-off!

Guns Prevent Crime

First, Marc I LOVE that story!!
Second, there are towns in the United States that REQUIRE residents to own guns with the exception of convicted felons and persons with religious objections.
Wanna guess how LOW the crime rates are in these towns?
Do a Google search for required gun ownership and especially read the comments about Kennesaw, Georgia.

I LOVE ARIZONANS AND THEIR GUN LAWS.

My family is from there, and while visiting last year I saw a holdup in a parking lot. The robber pointed a gun at his victim but instead, the robber was shot down by an armed passerby that was walking to his car and had seen what was happening. Then the robbery victim pulled his gun and shot the robber again. It was GREAT.
Here in Hawaii we cannot defend ourselves so only the victim gets shot. We get to call 911, wait two hours for the cops to show up, and if we survive, the cops will write up a nifty little report for us. At least in the great state of Arizona the criminals have to take a risk.

My thoughts exactly

Rick..you could not have said it better! It is your RIGHT to carry a gun. The only place I believe should be able to object is a place that has security concerns (court house ect).
Who are you to judge the man who carried that gun? So he was dirty, maybe he was a laborer? Did that occur to you? Maybe he had a hard life. Perhaps that was his only protection and he lived in a poor neighborhood.
If the law is in Arizona that you can carry it anywhere, GOOD FOR ARIZONA. And that DOES mean Wal Mart cannot object. It should be the law anywhere.

It is your right!

Not just anybody can carry a weapon, you must meet all the requirements, including a background check and pay for all the fees to become licensed. In Texas, if I meet those conditions and pay for the licensing process, it is my right to carry an concealed weapon. You need not fear us law abiding gun carriers, for remember this, criminals have stolen guns and would never pay for the right to carry their legally.

Sorry, Steve, that's the law in AZ...
Y'all must be an Eastie Tenderfoot..... Stop taking those antibiotics and catch Colt.
I lived in the Phoenix area 1971 - 1972. There are some restrictions about where you can pack your Colt, but I forget what they are. Packing a Colt shure cuts down on breaking & entering and mugging.... Traffic arguments do get interesting.... Those "Keep honking, I'm reloading" bumper stickers take on a whole new meaning!
And I forget what restrictions stores can and cannot impose on you and your Colt.....
I suggest that you get used to it and buy yourself a Colt, or move to CA, SC, .........
Y'all be livin in the Wild West, Ya hear?....

If they sell guns, they can let people with guns in
AUTHOR: Sean - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Wednesday, August 02, 2006
First, it's nice to know you judge people based on looks. For all you know this guy could have an IQ of 180, and be a well respected business man in your community.
Second, Walmart sells guns. You'd think a place that sells guns would allow customers to keep their weapons on their person, especially if it's a state law.
Hope your little son wasn't traumatized by this incident. If he was, he's going to have a rough life ahead of him when you finally remove your teet from his mouth.
