My son was born a micro-preemie at a mere 23 weeks gestation. We have been going to the same Walgreens for over a year now for his vital seizure medications. My son's doctors and nurses have to call in every time they adjust or change the amount of medication given, they usually have to call in several times until Walgreens gets it right.

Shockingly, when its time to refill they are always out of stock on his medications. Usually its not a problem because they will give us a small supply until they get the entire amount. This time was different. The 2 drugs they give me the most problems with is Topramate and Lamotrigine (maybe slightly misspelled). Recently my son's had a reaction to the Lamotrigine which is generic for Lamictal.

We think it was from increasing the dosage too quickly. Anyway we had to go back down on the dose of Lamotrigine and increase the dose of Topramate. His nurse had a hard time making sure they got this all down right in their systems. We got the new med doses either that night or the following day.

Long story short, they never put that his Topramate was increased so when we ran out and needed a refill, it kept coming back as refill too soon through our insurance. And I couldn't afford to pay for a month's worth of his meds. So his nurses called and argued with them over the phone and finally they got the problem fixed. But now they dont have the medicine in stock.

So my son went a day and a half without his medicine and his levels dropped too much I'm assuming because he is now having more seizures. I ended up going to a different Walgreens (like the 7th one I tried) to get his medicine. They were the only ones who had it in stock. My question is, why do you not keep a good supply of medicine that you know a loyal customer gets ever month?

Now its an ongoing battle to control his seizures again. Finding the right medications and the right combinations of meds to help stop these new seizures. This is life threatening.

Plus I'm on medicine to slow my heart rate and prenantal vitamines. A couple of months ago I called in to refill both meds and sent a friend to pick them up. When he returned he had 2 bottles of prenantal vitamines but no heart medicine.

When I called it in they told me that that was impossible and to bring both bottles back in. I had my friend do it because I'm on bedrest. They fixed the problem and gave him my heart meds. But what if I didn't have a way to get back to them? What if I never noticed because they are both big white pills?

You Can't Be Serious....

If the solution was as simple as changing pharmacies, do you honestly believe it was overlooked? Walgreens have effectively taken over this industry in my area. If I went anywhere is his results could be worse. These aren't everyday medications he's on. There are hardly any mom-and-pop pharmacies around anymore, and Walgreens only real competition is walmart.

But there are 2 problems with changing to Wal-mart: 1. They told me they don't carry my son's meds and to stock them would take weeks. Restocking them may take some time as well. And 2. they are not opened 24 hours. Due to my son's issues his docotrs need to be able to call in and change doses or prescriptions at any hour of the day or night. So with Walgreens being the leading drug store, they should be responsible for their short comings. The greater the business, the greater the responsibility.
