I totally agree with everyone ... there is more to this story. If the MD had written the Script 1 hour prior then this would have been cleared up with a phone call as it was stated in other posts. My assumption would be that there was something wrong with the Quantity or with the dosage versus what the Poster received in prior Prescriptions. Just imaging someone who knows nothing changing a script from 5 mg to 500mg (just grasping) that might be cause for alarm???

Yes.. I agree that Walgreens (but I am not limiting this to only Walgreens I am including most Chain Stores) Employees treat you like Sh.. when did they forget that we are their Paycheck? I find that Walmart, McDonalds, and many others treat us the same like one of many not like someone special but guess what? I have a choice to go there. For Pharmacy my choice is ShopKo here in Kenosha, the Personal and Individual Service you receive and for the Pharmacist to know my Son by name is special.

if you were a cop and are now a store manager at Walgreena, i think you are the last person to give advice on anything except which anti fungal cream is on sale this week. you don't go from a cop to a nobody with a clipboard unless you did something to get fired. now i am sure you are going to make up some cool story about shooting someone or getting shot, but i bet you took a bribe or slept with someone. that's what normally happens.i know because i am a cop. anyways. i think this kids lying. wont says his meds..why?hes hiding something. the police just happened to show up. they just popped out of nowhere when he turned around.hes probably trying to get some pain meds or some uppers/downers. i think hes full of it. they just don't out of nowhere arrest you and charge you with a felony. and then magically the DA doesn't pick it up.there's a good chance this story didn't even happen

I read what you have said.But I know your med. is for vicodin.With stronger pain meds. you have to see the doctor often to get that med.They will not fax scripts for oxycontin or other strong pain medication.You have to see the doctor and give them a hand written prescription.I have never ever had a problem with Walgreens.Also family doctors can not write scripts for oxycontin.The only doctors who can do that are pain specialist.

Walgreens is notorious for harassing pain patients. You can thank the cowards and sociopaths of the DEA for this. There are dozens of ripoffreports about this very same thin. Pharmacists have no business second guessing doctors about pain meds or their doses. By the way the idiotic comment about you being an addict is ignorant! Pain patients become DEPENDENT which is much different than addiction. If I were you I would also file a suit against the police department for refusing medical care. There have been several instances across the US of people dying while in custody all because of either laziness or sadism on the part of the police. The LAST place I would go to have any prescription filled is Walgreens. You should find a locally owned pharmacy and establish a relationship with a pharmacist who does not consider himself a drug 'warrior.' I think if it was just the date in question they would have called the doc before the police to verify. Call a methadone clinic and get set up. If you have state insurance they pay for it.You have a addiction to opiates. The Walgreens I once used made a point of informing me that they can and will call the DEA if they felt either the customer or Dr was doing somethig "wrong".
Wrong was the word she used I have no idea what that means. I did a bit of research and it does seem that the DEA have asked pharmacists to help with the "War on Drugs" by reporting Dr's they fill might be over perscriping and of course customers who maybe take to many pills.

As i said above I really can't say for sure this is the truth, however I can say Walgreens acts like it is. I am a pain patient and take a controlled medication and have for several years, and will for the rest of my life. Every 6 months I see my Dr and get checked out and my prescription is refilled for another 6 months and is faxed to the pharmacy. No way I can change it my Dr is part of the Med school /University so he his not running a "pill mill", I used Walgreens for two reasons online refills and the drive thru window. I will never use walgreens again for anything not even a tube of toothpaste. I was treated like a "junkie" every time I went to pick up my prescription I was questioned over the microphone at drive thur window. Why was I taking the meds? How long would I be taking them? How many do you take a day? Sometimes I would get a blunt question ex: "whats wrong with you anyway? If I went to the store I would get same questions at counter for all to hear. I asked them to stop, I wrote a letter to headquarters all for nothing. I asked my Dr had he been called, NO he had not. Ok nuff said the issue was with me and the meds I take. The pharmacists and techs can think whatever they want to,Walgreens can refuse to fill for me, what they cannot do is harass me because of notion they have of what is or is not right for me.

To the people who have made snide comments to or about the OP before jumping to worst case inform yourself about the difference between dependance and addiction. And keep in mind your life can change in a second and you too could end up a CP patient. Oh one more thing the OP not wanting to post the med and most just assuming blah blah . Know this one med the DEA,LE and who knows get their panties in a wad over is Xanax and sure enough if you stop after taking it suddenley after taking it for only a couple months, can indeed kill you.

Some advice I got from my Dr, interveiw pharmacy's go in with out your prescrption and explain the situation. I take X and this is how it works, do you have a problem with that. You will be amazed at the responses you get. Find somebody/place where everyones comfortable and stick with it.

I am currently a store manager with Walgreens, but my previous job was as a police officer. I have been involved in situations in which prescriptions have been forged as a police officer and a store manager and this "account" of what happened just doesn't add up! Before a pharmacist would even think of contacting the police for a forged script he/she would contact the prescribing physician to verify the validity of the script. If, and only if, the doctor said that the script had been altered or forged the pharmacist would have to report the incident. Even after the doctor verified script forgery, the pharmacist does not have to contact the police, that is usually left up to the doctor's office since 9 out of 10 forgeries are employees within the doctor's office. If the pharmacist did decide to contact the police, the police would file an initial report in which they themselves would contact the doctor's office. Every case of forgery I have been involved in, on both sides, has been handed over to a detective in the drug unit since prescription forgeries are a felony and these detectives has access to state wide databases.

Has a lawsuit been filed in this matter? Most likely not. Based on the facts provided the involved police officers would have laughed at the pharmacist for wasting their, what aren't you telling us?

Having worked as a Pharmacy Technician for over three years now, I have made many many calls to doctor offices in regards to "altered" prescriptions such as questions about the date, the amount to be dispensed, etc. In fact, it is required by all US states that a pharmacist and or Pharmacy Technician is to call in regards to issues concerning a controlled medication

If any patient has issues with a pharmacy or pharmacist, they should check with their state's pharmacy licensing board to file a complaint if necessary.

stores are like this. I, got to k-mart to fill my prescription's when I get sick & not once have I had any problems go to your local k-mart to fill your prescription it would be alot easier & I never had any problems. Avoid, drug stores @ all costs.

Good point, Aafes. I suppose if they had a question on my meds, they would simply call the doctor, as opposed to the police. In fact, a member of my family was busted at the drug store years ago for forged prescriptions - you guessed it - pain medication. All things considered, there is much missing from this report.

I did not go into detail for these types of medications because it is MUCH more likely a pharmacist would simply call the doctor to verify these types of medication rather than calling the police. In the case of life sustaining medications (such as blood pressure/heart meds) there are FEW if any pharmacists that will not provide enough of this medication to a patient to carry them over until they can see a doctor - ESPECIALLY for a patient that has filled this prescription at this pharmacy before.

It is my belief the alleged arrest was made because this poster either attempted to alter the prescription and/or had been "flagged" as someone who was receiving TOO much of a controlled substance. It is common for addicts to shop doctors for prescriptions for narcotics to gain excessive amounts and then be foolish enough to have them all filled at the same pharmacy.

unless you have really good Rx insurance. We get 90-day Rx with 3X refills so that I only have to send them to the mail-order pharm once a year. The company also gets a really good price from the mail order pharm.

Some Dr limit Rx length and/or number of refills to pull you back into their office more often. I switched Dr because the previous group of Dr we went to started allowing only one refill on a 90-day Rx. That ment I had to mail the Rx in 2X a year. And those Dr also started charging an extra $10 for a replacement Rx. Wouldn't you know it, the mail order pharm 'lost' on entire set of Rx for a week. Since my wife's meds are important, given her history, this was drama I did not need.

While on the subject of Rx insurance, have y'all figured what a POS the Medicare Part-D plans are? See the Sept 07 WSJ Magazine "Smart Money", pg 52. Analysis suggested that you might get 27% of your drug costs covered.... if you need Rx drugs. But if you don't need Rx until you are, say, 72, you will pay 7 years of premiums until you then get that 27% benefit. What a scam job for the insurance/drug companies.......

As others have already written, if the medication you take requires a new prescription form from a doctor every 30 days, it is most likely a federally controlled narcotic medication. The original poster writes that he/she will not disclose what the medication is because it is none of our business. If you file a lawsuit as your say you are going to do, it will be public business.

I still wonder why the pharmacy or police did not just call the doctors office to verify that the doctor just wrote the prescription. I would have thought that you would have been jumping up and down telling the pharmacy and police to call the doctors office. A simple contact to the doctor would have avoided the arrest and being put in jail. That is what cause many people to think that there is more to this story. It is common sense. What you did write, was that the doctor wrote you a new prescription the following day. Why would he have to write a new one? Why couldnt you use the one that you claim he wrote the day before?

You have updated you post to write that as of now, the DA has not filed felony charges against you. For a person to be arrested and thrown in jail, ( even overnight) doesnt charges have to be made? I will never understand why the doctor was not contacted. Maybe he was contacted by the pharmacy. Maybe he told them he did not write you a prescription. Who knows. Are you going to also file a law suite against the police dept for false arrest and false imprisonment? Did you have to post bond to get out?

While I usually agree with your rebuttals, many people who are on other medications only get 30 days at a time. I am on zoloft, and the doctor gives me a month's worth at a time for six months. This way she can make sure that I go in for my checkup. Also, many blood pressure meds, heart meds, etc. are filled one month at a time.

The poster won't tell us the medication which would have no bearing and also won't give a name. People who go to that lengthe are hiding something and shouldn't be trusted. If this person were legit what difference would the medication type make one way otr the other.

Just an FYI AAFES ins some state the doctor legally can not write a narcotice prescription for more than 30 days and a new script is required EVERY refill.

You won't tell the name of the medication, most likely because it is a narcotic and you may be addicted. Narcotics are almost the sole medication for which a doctor will not write a prescription for more than a 30 day supply.

Pharmacists, despite your comments, have a more in depth knowledge of medications and their interactions than almost every doctor. While a doctor will consult a Physician's Desk Reference (commonly used by Physicians) for doseages and interaction information, a Pharmacist can quote these facts, almost verbatim, from memory.

The pharmacist undergoes strict testing and licensing procedures and has a stringent set of legal guidelines they must follow. If your prescription looked suspect they are required BY LAW in most states to contact the authorities. The police then become responsible for determining if an arrest should be made based upon their interpetation of the evidence a crime has been committed.

The prosecutor, may or may not, decide to pursue the case if it has merit and if the evidence is strong enough to invest the resources of his office and the court. As this was likely a first offense, the doctor was likely interviewed, and your local pharmacies have you on a warning list, it was not worth pursuing.

As for your comment "I would go into shock" without the medication, I seriously doubt its truth. FEW if any pharmacists would refuse you a life sustaining medication without making SERIOUS effort to contact your physician for clarification of the prescription.

Thank you to the posters that have been so supportive, it means so much. To the other posters that say there is more to this story, and I haven't posted because it's a lie are wrong. The post is legitimate and honest. I haven't posted a rebuttal til now because I am chronically ill, period. I have weeks where it's a burden to get up and go to the restroom.

One poster asked what medication I was taking. I will not mention the medication because it is none of anyone's business besides my doctor and myself. The police dept made the same types of accusations and comments and there are some of us out there that have to have this medication to function. Period.

The follow-up to this story is that there have been no charges filed by the District Attorney and my attorney says that there wont be because there is no case, it was harrassment.

I will however be filing a civil suit against Walgreens and the city because they have ruined my doctor relationship, caused severe anguish and pain and so on.

Pharmacists that play doctor have no right dispensing medications and deciding whether or not someone should or should not be taking a medication. The prescription medicine that I was filling was something that I fill every month at the same time from the same doctor on the same insurance. It was all black and white and could be verified. There was nothing illegal going on here on my part.

Since I've seen so many posts of this type thing happening to other citizens, I'm seriously thinking of founding an organization to fight this type of discrimination. People that are terminally or chronically ill should not have to go through this type of harrassment because of the medications they are prescribed. Once again, NO ONE has the right to judge what medications a patient needs to take but the doctor.

Would you please take the time to tell us what type of medication the prescription was for. What was the commonly known name of the medicine. You signed your complaint as though you are from Keller, Texas. Is this where the accusation took place?

There are Federally controlled medications that require special prescription forms to be filled. I do not know if this is the case or not. What does give interest to this ROR, is that the original poster has not followed up. I agree with Steve, that there is more to the story.

Albeit, this story was written either late Saturday or early Sunday morning, the solution of credibility flies in our face. Verification of the Doctor issuing the prescription would have been so easy. As the poster wrote, he had gotten the prescription only an hour earlier. If there were any questions about the validity of the prescription, Walgreens would have called the Doctors office. The Police and D.A. office coulda, shoulda, and woulda called the Doctors office.

A letter or simple phone call from the Doctor would quickly solve and end this issue. The District Attorney would immediately drop all charges. Instead, we see the original poster writing about hiring a lawyer and going to trial facing felony charges, and losing his job. I think that we are being played here.

Remember, the north carolina district attorney got fired for proceeding to file charges agaisnt the 3 duke players & they had evidence they was not even @ the place where, the crime took place this is how this story looks like these district

Further, he can set it up so the doctor can testify or provide a sign affadavit as to the fact that the script was not altered.

Its going to cost some money. Your best bet is to get an attorney. These are only suggestions.

This is a slam dunk for a good attorney. Walgreens would settle without any hestitation.

A felon? I don't think you have to worry about that. If everything you said is true, then the Doctor would surely vouch for you (that the prescription was legal). I can't believe the district attorney would move forward with charges if the Dr. says it is valid.

First of all, Police do not make an arrest based ONLY on an accusation. They must have evidence to support a probable cause affidavit which they need to file to support the arrest.

Based on this, I think there is more to the story.

Did they charge you with a felony or a misdemeanor? This is very important.

However, you have some options if you in fact did not in any way alter the prescription. The first is to file a civil suit for damages against the INDIVIDUAL that made the complaint against you. Then file a separate one on Walgreens.

If there is no evidence against you, any lawyer would take this on contingency as it would be a slam dunk.

And, you could start a web blog against Walgreens and even the individual involved. You could also write to the corporate office and get some people fired.

I understand your situation. You were handed a bum rap. I am not an attorney.
You need to fight any charges on this. Plead not guilty. Get the doctor to vouch for you.

As for walgreens. I would get a free website and tell your story. I would also picket a walgreens not the one that had you arrested. Stay out of the driveway.

If they charge you. Tell the court that you can not afford an attorney. Do not plea bargain. You will be in for a nightmare that will never end.

Call their bluff. Without someone testifying that they signed something else on the script. They have no case.
